Criteria for EEA Family Permit

You can apply for the EEA Family Permit UK either as a family member or extended family member. However, you need to know the eligibility criteria for applying to the visa as a family member or extended family member.

Applying as a Family Member or Extended Family Member

The extended family members include brother, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, nephew, niece and more.

The applicants must be,

  • In the UK already
  • Travelling with you to the UK within 6 months of the date of your application

If they have been in UK for more than 3 months, then they must be either

  • A qualified person (or)
  • Have a permanent right of residence

For getting the EEA family permit, you should satisfy the following requirements,

  • The non-EEA family member and the EEA national must demonstrate intent to live together
  • The EEA-national partner must be exercising his or her Treaty rights in the UK - i.e. self-employment, study, employment
  • The non-EEA family member and the EEA national must have met already
  • The non-EEA family member and the EEA national must be travelling to the UK together, or the EEA national should already be in the UK
  • The family unit must not be dependent on public funds whilst in the United Kingdom
