Canada Immigration Guelph in Ontario Emerges As City with Lowest Unemployment

The rate of unemployment in Guelph, a city that is located in the province of Ontario, was reported to be the lowest in Canada for the previous month, a trend that has been continuing for the past few months.  once again last month, maintaining a trend that’s attracting an increasing number of immigrants to Guelph.

The city, which is also dubbed as the Royal City is situated 100 km to the west of Toronto. The city which has a population of more than 1300,000 reported an unemployment rate of just over 2 percent, according to a monthly labour market report that was compiled by BMO Capital Markets, a well-read publication in the province. In comparison to Guelph, the average rate of unemployment for all the 33 listed Canadian cities was reported at 5.3 per cent.

According to reports and the opinions of experts in the field, there is a pressing demand for labor in the following sectors

Manufacturing

Immigrants, who arrive in the city of Guelph, mostly find jobs as general labor and blue-collar workers such as in operating machines, as there is a huge demand for blue collar workers. According to President and CEO of Danby Appliance, a local manufacturing company in the city, Jim Estill, there are unlimited job opportunities for blue collar workers in the city.  The low unemployment rate and strong manufacturing sector is pulling immigrants from other parts of the country as well. Moreover, most workers are being offered competitive and higher salaries as well as path to skill upgradation in order to attract more labor into the company

Agriculture

There is a high demand for workers in the agriculture sector as the city is a major hub for agricultural research in the province. The Ministry of Agriculture in Ontario, Food and Rural Affairs has its office in the city, which means that there are job openings for immigrants who have a background in biotechnology, agriculture and veterinary sciences.

Academic

Persons with experience in academics and research can seek employment at the University of Guelph, which enjoys fourth place among universities in Canada, according to university rankings, published by Maclean’s Magazine this year.
