Swine Influenza which is also known as H1N1 flu, Pig Flu and Hog Flu is a kind of respiratory disease caused by viruses in pigs all over the world. Most times, it is caused by H1N1 influenza but H1N2, H3N2 and H3N1 also cause this kind of disease in human beings. The big difference is that the existing virus has some strains of pig and bird viruses to which mankind have negligible or low immunity. This aspect makes it a pandemic virus that could easily spread from one human. Swine influenza can look like normal fever and its symptoms are cough and cold, sore throat, headaches, fatigue, chills and body aches. If the disease is diagnosed earlier treatments can be done for avoiding further difficulties. In early 2015, this disease was diagnosed in more than 10000 individuals and around 665 people died in India. Here are some essential tips that help you in preventing swine influenza.

Get Vaccinated:

The centers of disease control and prevention  recommend people older than 6 months of age to get vaccinated. The H1N1 virus is a part of seasonal flu shot that protects you against 2 or 3 viruses. This vaccine is also available in the form of injection as well as nasal spray. People who are able 49 years of age can use nasal spray it should be avoided by pregnant women. However, seasonal flu vaccine does not help you against swine flu. It would be better if it is possible to get both the vaccines.

Wearing a face mask:

The CDC or Center for Disease Control recommends that people who are suffering out of swine flu should wear a facemask in order to avoid spreading this disease.
