Probiotics:Another Way to Maintain Intestinal Function

As the internal engine of the human body, bowel transit is the “nutrition supply center”. We all know that the body absorbs nutrition from food, but some stereotypes believe that the stomach is the organ digesting and absorbing food. In fact, physiology proves that 80% of the digestion and absorption process is finished in the intestines. It is plain to see that intestinal health is the fundamental of human health.

As one of the crucial parts in the digestive system, intestines are responsible for absorbing nutrients and water, and the residues of food and toxins after digestion will turn into feces to be evacuated out through intestines. Therefore, it is obvious how important bowel transit is to our human body. When any intestinal is "blocked", I mean constipation, feces will not easy to be discharged from the body, which may influence nutrition absorption and in result all parts of the human body will be in a state of "hunger". If the situation continues for a long time, the internal active environment of the body will be influenced to be lower, thus leading to a weaker body, even cause various diseases.

Therefore, if you have constipation symptoms such as having hard stools, discharging fewer than two or three stools a week or feeling hard to empty stools, it's time to take some measures.

Most of the constipation is caused by the lack of dietary fiber. The best way to deal with constipation is to intake more food fibers from vegetables and fruits. If the constipation is caused by the lack of liquid or loss of water in the body, making up the liquid (to drink more water) will help you to relieve the symptoms.

However, some cases of constipation are associated with intestinal microbes, such as bifidobacteria, which play an important role in maintaining normal intestinal peristalsis. Due to the acid-producing function of bifidobacteria and other obligate anaerobic bacteria, the intestinal lumen will be in an acidic environment, which will help maintain the normal peristalsis of the intestine and other physiological functions. If the bifidobacteria in the intestine is deficient, the peristaltic function of the intestine is reduced, and the feces in the intestinal lumen are not easily passed out, which may cause constipation. Occasional physiological constipation disappears after dispelling mental factors or changing eating habits. Long-term constipation may cause rectal cancer after repeated irritation to the intestinal wall by a large number of harmful substances in the feces. Therefore, long-term habitual constipation is not normal, which is worth your attention. The symptoms might be worse if using laxatives to fight against constipation.

Here comes another way to deal with constipation, that is, probiotics. Probiotics are living bacteria, naturally surviving in the gastrointestinal tract of the human body. These bacteria do a lot for the human body: they help to balance the environment of the gastrointestinal tract thus to relieve constipation. Oral ingestion of active bacteria preparations can supplement a large number of physiological bacteria (probiotics), correct the flora changes caused by constipation, maintain the balance of intestinal flora, and promote digestion and absorption of food. On the other hand, however, they can produce a variety of organic acids in the metabolic process, and reduce the pH in the intestinal lumen, recovering the normal peristalsis of the intestine thus alleviating constipation. In addition, it can reduce the absorption of toxins and metabolites, and accelerate the decomposition of blood ammonia. It is found that the number of bifidobacteria was significantly reduced when investigating the intestinal flora of 25 patients with chronic constipation, half of which were relieved by oral ingestion of bifidobacteria.

Also, various enzymes are essential when it comes to gastrointestinal health and digestion and absorption of food. Once the flora in the digestive tract is balanced and the enzymes remain active, the health of the gastrointestinal tract is not far from you!
