Almond Nutmeg Sables and Apple Wedges – A Healthy Combo

  • Cut an Apple after coring into evenly sized pieces. Do not peel the apple.

So here we go:

Preparation Time: 1.30 hours

Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients for Apple Nutmeg Sable Cookies are:

  • All Purpose Flour: 2 Cups
  • Toasted Almonds, Chopped: ½ Cup
  • Baking Powder: ½ Teaspoon
  • Nutmeg, Freshly Grated: ¼ Teaspoon
  • Butter: 10 Tablespoons
  • Granulated Sugar: ½ Cup
  • Egg: 1
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 Teaspoon
  • Egg White: 1 egg
  • Water: 2 Teaspoons

Step 1: Take a medium-sized mixing bowl and mix Chopped Almonds, Flour, Baking Powder and Nutmeg and set it aside.

Step 2: Take a large mixing bowl and cream sugar and butter until the mixture is smooth. Add egg and vanilla mixture to it and mix in the contents of earlier bowl till a smooth dough is formed.

Step 3: Form a disk or 2-inch diameter log of the dough. Wrap it up in a plastic wrap and refrigerate it for 1 hour.

Step 4: Preheat the oven to 350F. Beat together the egg white and 2 teaspoons of water to prepare the egg wash.

Step 5: Take out the disk log of the dough and roll it out to a thickness of ¼ inches. Take a 2 – inch fluted cookie cutter and cut out sables out of the dough.

OR

Step 6: If you have given the dough a log shape, slice the log crosswise into coins of around ¼ inch thickness.

Step 7: Egg wash the sables using a brush and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet for 15 minutes. (Or till the edges are lightly browned)

Step 8: Allow the sables to cool for 2 minutes on the cookie sheet only. Later, move them over to a wire rack to completely cool them off.
