Java fern "Microsorum Pteropus" is an excellent plant when you are thinking of expanding and starting a planted aquarium, It is very easy to care for and also very popular. 

There aremany reasons that makes this aquarium plant very popular. Java fern is extremely versatile and also very easy to keep. This is one of the primary reasons why it is very popular. All types of java fern can survive in an aquarium both planted and non-plantedas they attach themselves to driftwood or gravel. This plant has a bitter taste so it is often ignored by fishes. With these factors, it is suitable for most aquariums and all kinds of fish. 

Types Of Uncommon Java Ferns

Needle Leaf Java Fern

This is the perfect java fern for beginners because it is not demanding. This plant is also ideal for aquascaping due to its small size, which allows you to maintain a sense of scale in the aquascape. 

Hobbyists use this Needle Leaf Java Fern as a midground to background plant. It can only reach a height of 20to 40cm. This needle leaf java fern looks just like the narrow leave java fern, but it should not be confused for each other because narrow leaf java fern has leaves which are wider and less needle-like. 

This plant grows well in soft, acidic water, with a pH around 6.0 and 7.5. This plant has the ability to grow in different water condition. This plant can grow under almost any lighting level. 

Philippines Java Fern

Philippine Java fern originates from Asia and has nice hammered leaves and a slightly thinner leave than other types of Java Fern. Because of its name, it is believed to have originated from the Phillipines. 

This plant is loved by many because it is extremely undemanding and will grow well when it is attached to a rock or deadwood. This plant can also grow under almost any lighting level. 

Trident Java Fern

This java fern type is also called (Microsorum Pteropus var. “Trident”).  Trident Java Fern is well known for its narrow leaves that form trident-like formations, it is very unique because of its shape, and a beginner can easily identify it just looking at it. This plant does not require extra care. It just requires the same amount of care giving to any Java Fern. It can also be attached to aquarium decoration.  It requires low or moderate lighting to grow properly. 

Mini Java Fern

This is one of the smallest java ferns you can find in the aquarium hobby. Mini java fern is  uncommon and it is not as big as the normal java fern. 

This mini java fern is very beautiful and can be used in midground or foreground in small to medium aquarium tanks. 

Micro Java Fern

This is the smallest type of java fern you can find in the aquarium hobby and it is not common. This type of java fern is so small compared to mini java fern. It can also be used as mini feature plants because of its stunning small fern leaves.
