Looking for A Wedding Venue? Know the Dos & Don’ts

Are you looking for wedding venues near you for your special day? Before signing the agreement, here are a few things you may wish to consider for your wedding venue search:

Don’t rule out venues automatically:

It's difficult to guesstimate how much a possible venue is going to set you back based on the pictures alone. Offer yourself free reign to visit any & all wedding locations that grab your interest — whether they are must-sees or just maybes — if you have the time and are not getting hitched in 6 months or less.

Do take the bare bones into consideration:

It is easy to transform a wedding venue from so-so to beautiful with drapery, lighting, and centerpieces. Nonetheless, those décor elements come with a big price, so budget brides may wish to consider picking wedding venue sites that they could see themselves getting married in with minor retouches. I have heard stories of couples who loathed the ceiling, carpeting or general layout of their nuptial venue, signed the agreement, then spent thousands striving to bring it up to their standards. Bad idea!

Do inquire about the deposit price first:

One popular myth is that there is an industry-wide standard that all marriage venues follow when it comes to booking your date & making that initial payment. If you wish to book a specific date ASAP, call the venue in advance and ask how much the deposit is so that you don't show up short-handed.

Don't be shy to bargain:

Most venues have a fixed amount that they have to fulfill for a specific date, which could be influenced based on how many guests you have. If you offer to make the minimum number of guests higher, this could knock down your cost per plate, so long as you are 100 percent sure that you could fill all of those seats. Be courteous and tell the coordinator what your price range is & ask if you can subtract any of the extras (e.g. chair covers at a pop) to try & hit that number. Be aware though that if you are dead-set on a specific venue, you are going to have to accept the general margins of what it costs — even bargaining has its limits.

DO be flexible with your date.

Venues charge a premium for Saturday evenings, so you can immediately save by booking your wedding on any other day of the week (Thursday & Friday evenings are becoming particularly popular).
