Our Self Guided Walking Holiday Balkans was one of the most intense and enriching of our lives. This region, so sadly known for a war that is hard to forget, is today one of the most complete and interesting destinations in Europe: there are cultural cities full of history such as Split, Sofia or Berat; paradisiacal places like Ohrid Lake, Bled Lake or the beaches of Croatia; Curious places like Tirana, Skopje or Ljubljana and places where you simply leave a little bit of your heart like Sarajevo or Kotor Come on, you were in love with these countries so close and so different.

May and September are the best months to visit the Balkans: it's been good weather without getting too hot and you'll also avoid encountering thousands of tourists.

The Balkan Peninsula is made up of the countries Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia. Ohrid is the most beautiful city in Macedonia and also the most tourist city, especially the summer season. A tree more than 1,000 years old welcomes you at the start of its main street and that takes you to its biggest attraction, the huge Lake Ohrid, which it shares with its neighbouring country, Albania. One of the most interesting sights of this city is that there are 365 churches, one for each day of the year. Because of its natural, historical and cultural values, Ohrid was also declared a World Heritage Site. This photograph is one of the most photographed landscapes in the country, and it is that the place transmits peace and tranquillity while enjoying the sunset.

Ljubljana is considered one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe. Tranquillity, architecture, canals, its castle, bicycles instead of cars, its youthful atmosphere, and above all much green is what awaits the capital of Slovenia, recently awarded with the title of European Green Capital. When we arrived in the city, we noticed that the people there lived with another philosophy, calm during the day and animated at night, although to go for a beer Selfguided Cycling Holiday.
