Paint Colors for Small Spaces

Trying to decide on a paint color for a smaller space can be slightly challenging and downright intimidating. However, if you choose the right color, your space will actually feel bigger and more open.

Before I give you a few amazing paint colors to open up a small room, I want to let you know the two things to remember when choosing a paint color on your own.

  1. Go for a light color. This may seem obvious but, I have to say it. Lighter colors will reflect more light. So if you have a dark navy blue and a light gray, the gray will be more light reflective.
  2. Don't forget about your paint sheen. This is often overlooked by many homeowners. Choosing a flat or matte paint sheen won't reflect light as well as a satin sheen or an eggshell. These two sheens have a slight shininess to them which in turn will reflect light better.

Now let's get into the colors I love, both personally and recommendations I make to my clients. These colors are my tried and true go tos for smaller spaces. Using them for small rooms will keep the room from feeling heavy and weighed down.

Alabaster by Sherwin Williams -Alabaster is a beautiful creamy, off-white color. It has a hint of warmth to it making it the perfect alternative that is not stark.

Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore -Gray Owl is a Benjamin Moore gray that is very versatile. It’s a light gray with a nice balance between cool and warm tones.

Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams -Agreeable gray has a taupe undertone. The taupe undertone keeps it on the warm side, not allowing it to look too cool. As the perfect greige, this color is an effortless neutral that brightens a space providing warmth and blending seamlessly with almost any color palette.

Olympus White by Sherwin Williams - This is a very light gray almost white color. I actually just helped a client choose this color for a smaller bedroom in her home. This color made her room feel open and airy and not heavy at all.

Remember to use my two tips and you'll have your own beautiful paint color picked out in no time.
