Indeed diabetes is a serious condition which requires your utmost attention all the time but this should not be something that would make you deny of the things which once you loved the most, pleasures of traveling for an example. There are several people who avoid touring and adventures just because diabetes has hindered in their lives, although it needs to be catered with a little care but it remains as no excuse of enjoying your lives.

However, extra care is required indeed. During traveling your routine gets distorted in a way which all in contributes to the adventure. These also leads towards delayed meals, more physical exertion than usual, unfamiliar food and different cuisines which can deliberately adverse your diabetic condition. Prerequisites

  • Pay your regular doctor a visit before you pack your bags for the trip, completely assure if you will be able to travel and may as well abort the plan if the doctor says so, after all the health is more important.

During the Travel

  • In case of traveling by road, you can pack plenty of healthy and nutritious home-prepared foods.
  • Again in car, avoid putting your medicines, insulin, glucometer, and other diabetic equipment under the direct sun.
  • Take along healthy munching snacks to munch on every now and then when your sugar level goes down. You can keep fruits, vegetables, home-made sandwiches, salads and lettuce wraps.
  • There might be chances that you have decided to take a longer more exploring journey and might be traveling across time zones. As a diabetic it is important to consume your meals on time thus you should keep alarms set for your timings of the certain meal timings.

 

When you are there

  • If you have a hike planned out or any physical activity which is out of your regular routine, do keep a check of your blood sugar levels and also make alterations to the diet likewise,
  • Avoid over exerting yourself during the fun time because it will cost you later on.
  • Keep yourself cold when you visit hot areas and avoid being barefoot or getting a sunburn. You might be required to keep a strict check of your insulin more often.
  • Buffets might be a trend in your hotels but try ordering separately from exclusively healthy choices. Reflect your food choices on what your doctor has told you to.
