CBD is dominating the press at the moment, it’s beginning to be used medicinally in the UK for all sorts of things (which we aren’t allowed to discuss on our website). So, instead of focussing on the health benefits we thought we would discuss the recreational side of CBD use.

How does CBD interact with the body?

The plant genus Cannabis produces around 60 cannabinoids that interact with the endocannabinoid system in our bodies. Our what? We hear you ask! Umm well, here’s the science bit …

Essentially in really simple terms the endocannabinoid system is a network of neurons with cannabinoid receptors in our body that are involved in regulating a variety of physiological and cognitive processes. These receptors are the ones that are affected by CBD and the ones that transmit the effects throughout our bodies. CBD Full Spectrum Oil

Without distorting the science too much, you could say that human beings are “hard-wired” for cannabinoids. The endocannabinoid system runs deep and touches all of the major systems of the body. And that’s why cannabinoids have the potential to be very effective.

So why do people take CBD for recreational purposes?

Many people who use CBD for fun say they find it relaxing. They also say it acts as a kind of counterweight to THC. The passive, sustaining Yin to the active, creative Yang of THC if you will.

What are the popular most popular CBD products out there?

CBD Oils

One of the most popular ways to consume cannabidiol is as an oil. It comes in a variety of strengths and is simply taken via a few drops under the tongue a few times a day.

CBD Balm & Lotions

Balms and lotions can be applied to the skin. These act as a moisturiser and allow CBD to be absorbed through the skin. It can also come in the form of shampoo, deodorant, cleansers and soaps.

CBD Vape

Vaping is a very popular way to take CBD. It comes in a variety of strengths and flavours and can be combined with other vaping E-Liquids to make your own special custom mix.

CBD Edibles

CBD comes in a lot of edible forms including yummy gummy bears, tinctures and foods. This is also a very popular way to consume CBD.

CBD Hemp Flowers

CBD flowers have been a hot topic recently in the UK. They are derived from hemp cannabis plants and can be thought of as the sister to marijuana. At a glance they may look and smell the same, but zoom in and they are very different.

Marijuana is dominated by the cannabinoid THC which is attributed to the high users experience when ingesting it. This cannabinoid mostly affects the CB1 receptors which are found around the brain, lungs, blood vessels, muscles, digestive tract, reproductive organs and central nervous system. It is naturally very low in other cannabinoids. This means that it is a poor source of CBD, often containing less than 1% CBD.

Hemp on the other hand is non-psychotoxic, so it doesn’t get you stoned. This is because it has very low levels of THC. Our hemp flowers only ever reach a maximum of 0.2% THC so that they fall within the laws in this country. It has very high levels of CBD and all other cannabinoids the plant has to offer. CBD mostly affects the CB2 receptors. These are commonly found around the organs, liver, pancreas, brainstem and immune system. When consumed, one can expect to experience a relaxed feeling throughout the body, without causing a high. Therefore, this does not affect one's cognitive abilities and can be consumed along-side most people's daily routines.

So, the big difference between these plants is their cannabinoid ratios. Both plants contain the same cannabinoids and terpenes, and look almost identical to one another. Many people who have had negative experiences with marijuana often find solace with hemp making it something we believe to be universally popular.
