Chiropractic and vertigo

If you have never experienced the awful feeling that you get if you have an attack of vertigo, then you need to count yourself as very lucky indeed. The sensation is like going too fast on a children’s merry go round ride at the fair and you feel like you need to hold on tightly to something or you will totally lose your balance. When I had several vertigo episodes recentlyI felt that I was going to fall off the bed even though I was lying down! I also felt very sick at the same time and my body just felt overwhelmingly “out of control”. I had very little warning that I was going to have an attack so it’s a horrible condition to have as you never know when it might strike.Vertigo can happen at anytime and there are certain conditions that can cause vertigo.

I found a really good source of information on this and other related subjects by visiting www.backblog.co.uk

So, what can vertigo mean?

There is a lot of information out there about vertigo and it can be confusing distinguishing the facts but here are some of interest.

Having vertigo can sometimes result in being left with tinnitus which is quite a common condition and is defined by a hissing, ringing or high-pitched screech in the ears.Another condition is Meniere’s disease. This is where there is a build up of fluid in the ear and a change of pressure in the ear.

Inflammation in the inner ear and infections such as viral infections can be down to labyrinthitisand this condition affects the nerves around the inner ear and helps the body balance.

Can a chiropractor help?

The several vertigo attacks I had fortunately happened when I was at home, but I was a bit worried about how sudden they came on as I drive daily and was worried about that. Through chatting to several friends, I found out that a chiropractor can carry out a variety of specific tests and through specific adjustments can re align joints that are not moving properly, and this can quickly correct the problem.

I had felt a bit stiff in the shoulders, but the chiropractor confirmed that I was tense and stiff in the upper neck.  I was amazed to find that following my first treatment I felt a bit better and after a further treatment a few days later I was overjoyed to find that my vertigo had completely stopped.

The chiropractor showed me some exercises that I could do that he said might help me. The exercise technique had a very funny name - the Brandt-Daroff technique but despite the complicated name it’s very easy and quick to do. I just sit on the edge of the bed and drop my head to one side and drop it down to the other side then back upright, then just repeat at one-minute intervals.

He also suggested may be trying Tai chi because this exercise hasslowed, controlled movements and is a safe way to focus on your body movements and balance.

If you’d like to find out a little bit more about chiropractic go towww.chiropractor-near-me.com.

I find normally the best way to find a chiropractor is by referral from a friend, family member or other health professional. On-line feedback about the chiropractor or clinic website is another way to locate the right chiropractor that can deliver high quality care for you.

There is so much informative advice to read so if you are considering and interested in finding out more about chiropractic treatment.
