A Horoscope About Horoscopes!

Along with our Birthdate when we were born, we were associated with something quite important and that is our star sign. Our star sign or Zodiac sign as known in western astrology is one of the twelve 30 Degree sectors of the ecliptic equinox.

I bet that more than half of you’ll reading didn’t know about this neither did I. Very frankly nobody does and nobody needs to. The major pull we millennials feel towards these zodiac signs is because of the detailed and descriptive analogy they bundle up and present to us as “Astrological Readings” or “Horoscopes”. These horoscope readings entertain the various aspects of our life in grave detail and have more often than not found us taken aback with the accuracy they contain. You may have come across various articles in newspapers as well as popular magazines.

But how did us millennials stumble upon astrology and our zodiac signs?

Instagram!

Like everything in life, this question’s answer is also Instagram. It comes as no surprise that we did not discover astrology and our zodiac sign by going through old books and vedas. This discovery only happened when people started posting about their zodiac sign’s compatibility on the social site and then their followers quickly followed. No later did various pages start functioning and thriving because of this. We saw the coming up of many pages and products that are solely dedicated to Horoscopes. These pages not only post about the sign’s daily routine but also find compatibilities of signs in the most mundane things possible. They will provide an explanation for anything basis your zodiac sign.

Having a terrible headache? You must be an Aries!

Having a salad for dinner? you have got to be a Leo!

Having a mental Break down? Then you probably a Gemini!

These assumptions have caused a certain veil like stereotype around each sign. This veil often gives the follower a certain lens through which they will perceive a particular person if he/she knows the other person’s zodiac sign and will often push certain things to be because of their zodiac sign rather than the own individualistic personality.

The final question one can ask themselves is that why do millennials love reading horoscopes so much. And the answer Is simple.

They get to use their horoscope as an outlet for certain behaviour or habits. They want some surety and explanation in this fast pace ruthless world. They need somebody to tell them why things went good or bad when they did. That’s why millennials are attracted to Horoscopes, because of the explanation rather, closure it offers in certain situations.

Then again who wouldn’t be!
