The Pigmentation Conundrum:

Posted by Jenny Clarke on June 28th, 2019

Something that we experience in our day to day lives are the problems and the sensitivity that our skin faces. This day and age, the weather, the pollution, everything affect our skins very much, and hence our skin responds to such stimuli drastically. One such method of response by our skin, or rather by the pigment of our skin is pigmentation. The melanin of our skin darkens or discolors the surface and color of our skin to the actual color. This happens due to the damage that the skin cells of our body go through in day to day life. This, in turn, affects the melanin, and that changes the skin color. Pigmentation is a common problem and is a cosmetic defect more than a harmful one.

How to Reduce Pigmentation?

Pigmentation can be reduced by multiple ways, using natural methods, using chemicals, using synthetic methods, or even by using some kinds of injected medicines. But the best way to reduce pigmentation is to use a cream developed for its purpose. Creams and lotions are really helpful for such skin problems as the need for arranging raw materials, combining them and then using them only to wash them off, every day, for a long time to see only some little effect is honestly really hard work to do. Creams, on the other hand, are substances made for exactly this purpose and can fulfill the purpose easily, in a lesser amount of days and there won't be a necessity to arrange for anything or even wash it off as creams and lotions are soaked up by the skin.

The best lightening cream for hyperpigmentation are the ones that that are non-comedogenic that are suitable for all skin types and as well as the ones that are, sulfate-free and have no mineral oils in them. Always remember to use the only creams that are dermatologically tested.
The best way to get of any pigmentation is by two methods. And they are pretty easy as well. Firstly, limit yourself to sun exposure. We all know Vitamin D is needed, but too much of sunrays can help increase the pigmentation. Hence whenever you go out into the sun, always remember to use sunscreen of minimum SPF 30. Secondly, avoid picking and touching on the skin that is already infected or that is already inflamed or scarred by the sun. This helps in keeping the discoloration at one place.

There are some things called topical creams that people use for the reduction of pigmentation. Topical means something that you can directly apply to the infected part of the skin. Topical Azelaic Acid is an organic compound that is white and can be applied to the areas where pigmentation shows. Other topical creams and lotions that can be used are corticosteroids and hydroquinone.

In the earlier days, home remedies used to be done with such natural things as aloe vera or licorice, where the aloe gel would be taken and used in the affected areas and then washed off or let dried out, or where the licorice extract glabridin creams would be taken and applied to the area where the inflammation was taking place.

In this day or the modern era, cosmetic procedures are one of the most sought after ways of decreasing pigmentation on the skin. Laser therapy or low-level laser therapy is something that is extensively used as its application is quite simple, where the high power lasers cut or destroy the tissues or the pigmented areas, making the skin whiter. Then there's the chemical peel. A chemical peel is also used as a cosmetic medicine where the peel is applied to the skin, which then creates a blistering effect on the skin and then finally peels off, revealing a cleaner and smoother skin. It helps to get rid of the pigmentation temporarily. Another method that is in trend right now is microdermabrasion. In this process requires special equipment that uses an abrasive surface that gently removes the upper part of the skin to rejuvenate it. A lot of skin problems like acne, pigmentation, scars, abrasions, inflammations, wrinkles, and even fine lines are removed through this method. It also considered as one of the safer processed ones can go through to reduce pigmentation.

Conclusion:
I want to conclude by saying that even though creams and lotions are there, you should always take care of your skin and make sure it stays clean, moisturized, and hydrated at all times. Your body and your skin is your temple, and you should always take care of it religiously and carefully. Blaming it on other things isn't always the case. So, keep yourself in check and keep your body clean so that you minimize the use of chemicals on them and lead a healthy life.
