PHP is a programming language which stands for Personal Home Page language. This language was primarily designed for web development by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994. PHP is most suitable for creating dynamic web pages. It allows coding in HTML and it can be integrated with MySQL and PqSQL Databases. Ever since its inception PHP has been the most preferred language for creating dynamic web pages.

After the formation of PHP team, the parser was reorganized and PHP 3.0 was born. PHP 3 played a crucial role in fixing bugs and completely modifying the PHP core. At this stage the abbreviated form of PHP was changed to Hypertext Preprocessor.

Pre-requisites of Learning PHP

The first step to learn any programming language is to learn the syntax of the language. Once you are familiar with the syntax of the language you can proceed further to develop small programs.

PHP is used to handle dynamic content, databases, and to create e-commerce sites.

PHP can be merged with many other well-known databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, Sybase, Informix, and Microsoft SQL Server.

PHP is very fast in its execution when it is compiled with Apache module on the Unix side.

The best way to learn PHP or any coding language is to first devout some serious time learning the Syntax of the language. Syntax is the Vocabulary of the language.

Then, once you know the Syntax aka Vocabulary, the next thing to learn is how to use it to create small programs. At this point you will be learning the Grammar of the coding language in a Project Based Learning approach.

Working on small projects, and I mean small, is a great way to learn since it isn’t overwhelming, easy to debug, very easy to find helpful resources and it gives you a small win when you get it right.

Gradually try to create more advanced programs but don’t try and skip ahead to far since learning to code is like learning a new spoken language.

You might also want to buddy up with someone who also has some experience with PHP so you can pick their brain and learn at a faster pace.

If you’re serious about it, then practice at least two hours per day. You will have a good command on PHP if you practice PHP for two hours daily. Notice I said GOOD, not GREAT, not MASTER DEVELOPER, but GOOD. Becoming great or mastering the language will take years.

PHP can collect and save data from files and this data can be shared with other users through e-mail. With the help of PHP, content of database can be modified by adding or deleting the elements.
