Wool washing & care tips for cuddly wool

Wool is a beautiful natural product. In many different qualities, it keeps you warm in winter and cuddles softly against the skin. So that it stays that way and you enjoy your beautiful wool sweaters for a long time, you should know how to properly care for the noble material because wool reacts very sensitively to hot temperatures and wrong treatment. With a few simple tips offered by New York Laundry service, the proper wool care is not great art.

Tips for washing clothes:

The right washing program for wool:

Wool is a natural fiber. It comes from the sheep, the rabbit, the Angora goat or the South American alpaca. Similar to human hair, every single wool fiber is surrounded by a special scale layer.

When wool gets wet, this cuticle layer is very sensitive to mechanical stimuli. It can roughen, the scales of the individual fibers then get caught up in each other, the woolen linen matted and comes in from the machine. Clothes made of real wool should, therefore, be washed in a suitable wool wash cycle. This is very gentle, the laundry is not thrown heavily.

The hand washes in lukewarm water are even gentler than the machine wash. Especially valuable pieces should undergo this care. Pay attention to what label the manufacturer has indicated on the wash sheet - the only laundry that is also labeled as machine washable should land in the washing machine.

Wool washing - The gentle hand wash:

For washing, you should use a mild wool detergent. Do not use softeners as this only damage the delicate wool fibers. Bleach and hot water are also taboo. Wash woolen things by hand, then soak them in warm water with wool detergent and then rinse them under running, lukewarm water.

To dry, spread the clothes flat on a large towel and then roll up the towel. The towel absorbs the excess water. This treatment is much gentler than the wringing of the wet garments, the woolen things stay in shape. Potato starch and vinegar help against stubborn stains: simply put on the stain and rinse with clear water after a short exposure time.

Tips against pilling:

Of course, laundry made of pure wool does not have to be found in the dryer. Ironing is usually not necessary, well-groomed wool usually falls soft and wrinkle-free.

If woolen things have to be ironed once, turn left. Virgin wool should not come in contact with steam, otherwise, it can become matted.

If you want the best care while washing your woolen clothes, it is always advisable to use New York Laundry service.
