Perfume is not allowed in the State of IhramPosted by Ady Grewal on July 2nd, 2019 Natural fragrance usually has been highly advised in Islam, yet in some certain circumstances particularly in the state of Ihram using perfume is strictly prohibited. It is described that during the state of Ihram Umar (RA) sensed the pleasing odor from Mu'aawiyah (RA), so meanwhile, he ordered him to go back, and wash it off as he had heard from the Messenger of God that pilgrims must be free of fragrance. • If pilgrims apply perfume in ignorance, so meanwhile they should wash it as they realize. The penalty in such condition is not required. • The eating or drinking things which naturally grow such as fruits obviously have some kind of fragrance are allowed to eat and drink. Yet pilgrims must desist their odor to spread around. • Vegetables or alike such as flowers are not permissible to eat. • Buying and selling perfumes are allowed during the Ihram but pilgrims are not allowed to smell or use them even as checking for. • Pilgrims should also abstain from cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and all the things that have fragrance in wearing Ihram. • Pilgrims in during the Ihram are not permissible to wash with aromatic soaps and shampoos. Moreover, it is very necessary to abstain from putting these things near the clothing of Ihram, which causes them to be fragrant. • If pilgrims reach the places or nearby such as perfumes shops where the pleasant odor is sensed, so they must put the cloth on the nose to resist the fragrance. It is better that pilgrims should avoid going to such places. • During using Khuluq of Kaabah (the thing that authorities perfume Kaabah with that) is not prohibited, but there is no authentication that what Khuluq of Kaabah is. So pilgrims should abstain from the fragrant that is applied on Kaaba, too. If the pilgrim wearing Ihram uses fragrance deliberately then it is an obligatory precaution to pay the atonement of one sheep. After finishing the major or minor pilgrimage such as Hajj or Umrah as pilgrims are renounced from Ihram, so they are permissible to use fragrance either natural or artificial. Yet, pilgrims should use the fragrances which are highly recommended in Islam. Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) reported that the Messenger of God told that the male perfume is that which fragrance is ostensible and the color is unseen. While female perfume is that which scent is hidden and the color is apparent. Like it? Share it!More by this author |
