The Child Who Makes The Man

Montessori

“The greatest development is achieved during the first years of life, therefore it is then that the greatest care should be taken. If this is done, then the child does not become a burden but he will reveal himself as the greatest marvel of nature.”- Maria Montessori. Education is learning, it begins with the first cry of a newborn and doesn’t stop till he finally rests. Our most common misconception is merging the idea with that of schooling.

What is Montessori and How It Affects a Child’s Understanding

In the early 1900s Maria Montessori, came up with the innovative thought of directing a child’s thoughts in the direction they wanted, rather than the traditional way of teaching a child to subdue to learn.  A dear friend of mine teaching in a Montessori school in Ashburn VA let me in on a few vital character traits that a child is most likely to build through Montessori schooling:

  • Students develop a dynamic way of thinking in place of just learning something (on a reward/punishment basis). They perform better as they are encouraged in the direction their mind is willing to go in.
  • Asking of the question “WHY?” Questioning everything is the greatest learning of all. In all of our lives we never learn from someone who agrees with us, the desire to question the world around is the best gift one can give to a child.
  • Students undergoing Montessori education have statistically better social and leadership skills as they’re provided with an environment as close to home as it can be making them most comfortable.
  • The cultivation of environment of independence and personal responsibility sounds rather vague about a child so young, but it is exactly this time of his life that he cultivates these traits. A child forced to abandon his creativity for only acceptance will always settle for less than he deserves.
  • Pre-School education that is precisely what Montessori is, gives a head start in understanding and the picking power of a child when starts formal education over the peers he is surrounded by.

 World Opinion about Montessori Schooling

The idea of pre-schooling had a wave of unrest amongst people around the world, the complain of depriving a child of his precious time spent with parents is all but only a lack of acceptance to change, and unwillingness of paying extra taxes. Montessori schools near me are most strikingly concerned about inculcating the concept of the importance of Montessori schooling.

With the passage of time, pre-school Montessori and day care have become more common than ever. The most important factor yet still lies in the teacher, of how much understanding he has of his students. He needs to be wary of providing a near perfect environment, that is lesser strength of his class for maximum concentration provided, and equally important is to be open for growth and learning himself. A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.
