Posted by Lewis on July 3rd, 2019

Everyone knows that gay pride in London is honestly one of the biggest events of the year. It\'s time to prepare yourself for the fun, festivity and empowerment that pride time instils in its LGBTQ+ community. So, let\'s pull out the rainbow flags, the face paint and all the glamorous costumes. It\'s time to get ready for London gay pride 2019.

What is Gay Pride?

If we were to describe \"Gay Pride\", it would be that it is an event that celebrates the freedom of love. People can love whoever they want and be in any sort of relationship that they choose to be in. Gay Pride celebrates this autonomy by having large parties all over the country in different cities. Keep in mind that different cities do celebrate pride differently, but for London in particular, the identities within the LGBTQ+ community are celebrated with a large party and parade of floats. The community also comes together on gay pride to celebrate the history and achievements that LGBTQ+ individuals have received.

Everyone deserves to be loved. That\'s the main message behind gay pride as a whole.

Why do we need Gay Pride?

We need gay pride to remind us of the strides we have made to accept and protect sexual diversity. It\'s important to not think of gay pride as an event where people get the opportunity to show off their sexuality just because they want to shove it in your face. No, that would be insane. Instead, think of it as a celebration of equal rights and self-affirmation. Everyone is welcome at gay pride, whether they are heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual or anything in between. What matters is that all sexualities and the identities of people become visible and are accepted.

It is important to become an ally of the LGBTQ+ community and not forget the hardships that community have undergone as a whole. The community is a minority group that always faces adversity. Therefore, pride is also an event that shows that they will survive, even if the odds are stacked against them.
