Everest Base Camp Trek Vs Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Both the Trekking are one of the best selling and popular treks in the whole world. Thousands of trekkers complete this journey yearly. But, there are much more difference between these trekking routes

Weather
The Annapurna Base Camp, as well as the Everest Base Camp, are located in the Himalayan region of Nepal. Therefore, these places can be extremely cold in the winter. Annapurna Base Camp has an altitude of 4130 meters, while Everest Base Camp has an altitude of 5380 meters.

This means that on any given day, the Everest base camp is colder than the Annapurna base camp. Both regions have four seasons: summer, winter, autumn and spring. Summer is the hottest season, while winter is the coldest. Spring and autumn are the seasons when the temperature is mild.

The summer season in Nepal also coincides with the monsoon which makes trekking trails more humid than in other seasons. At Everest Base Camp, the chances of rain during the monsoon are lower than at the Annapurna Base Camp because the higher-altitude part of Nepal receives less precipitation than regions with lower altitudes. So, if you are looking for a monsoon trip with fewer interruptions, EBC is the place to go.

However, during the winter, the Everest base camp has a lower temperature than the Annapurna base camp. At Annapurna Base Camp, the minimum temperature in winter (December / January) is only 8 ° C. However, in winter, the temperature of EBC can reach -20 ° C. Therefore, if you are looking for a trekking in December or January and do not want to go places that have very low temperatures, ABC may be the destination for you.

Spring and autumn are the seasons in which you can find many hikers in these two regions. Since ABC is at a lower altitude, the temperature of the places along the road is, on average, higher than that of EBC.

Altitude
Altitude is another factor that you should consider before considering the possibility of trekking in these regions. You should not only observe the altitude of the two base camps, but also the altitude of the places along the hike and the amount of altitude you gain in a day.

These are some of the places you will probably find along the way. You should check with the travel company you are traveling with to see where you will go and how much altitude you will earn along the way. They will customize the trip according to your needs.

The places along EBC are much higher in altitude compared to ABC. This makes it necessary to spend a few more days in certain places of EBC Trek for acclimation. While practicing trekking in the Base Camps of the mountains, it is recommended that you do not gain much altitude in a single day.

Altitude sickness is the biggest threat to people who want to travel to these Base Camps. Because Everest Base Camp is much higher in altitude, the probability of altitude sickness is higher in EBC than in ABC.

But as long as you train properly, carry the necessary items and go slow, there is little chance of nausea.

Duration of trekking
Another important factor to consider when choosing EBC vs ABC is the number of days you want to spend trekking. The trek to Everest Base Camp is only slightly longer than the Annapurna Base Camp walk, as it has to spend a couple of days acclimating at the high altitudes of the Everest region.

The traditional Everest base camp will take 14 days to complete. The Annapurna base camp, on the other hand, can be completed in 13 days.

These durations of trekking are not rigid in any way. You can also take a short walk at Annapurna base camp or a short walk at Everest base camp. The abbreviated version of the ABC and EBC walks last 10 days and 12 days respectively (check Everest Base Camp Trek).

Although you may be tempted to further shorten these durations, you should keep in mind that acclimatization to the altitude and temperatures of these regions is extremely necessary. Proper acclimatization is the only way to ensure that your health during walking is optimal.

Your trip to EBC will be extended if you want to personalize your trip by choosing to go to other places in the Everest region. There is a hiking trail to EBC from Jiri that will take you 22 days to complete.
