Between lakes and mountains, Udaipur, jewel of Rajasthan , is one of the most touristic cities of Rajasthan. It is impossible not to fall under the charm of this city, also known as the little Venice of the East, thanks to its majestic "thousand and one night" palaces set on the lakes.

The Attraction Sites Of The City

Udaipur is home to several lakes (Fateh Sagar, Picholo and Goverdhan Sagar) that give this city its charm. Among the famous buildings of this city, the palace-hotel "Lake Palace" floats on Lake Picholas and overflows precious objects such as paintings, stained glasses and gardens.

This palace built between 1743 and 1746 has lost none of its splendor and currently it is part of the Taj group and only customers can enter. The Shiv Niwas Palace, built in 1559, is a museum that reflects the rich history and culture of Udaipur. It contains monuments, arches, pentagon towers, gardens, beautiful salons, paintings and fountains out of the ordinary.

Built by Maharaja Udai Singh 11, the Udaipur City Palace will dazzle you with its collections of luxurious objects, its rooms decorated with mirrors, mosaics and paintings.

Part of the Udaipur City Square is still inhabited by the royal family and the other part is open to visitors. The palace Sajjan Garh or Monsoon Palace, built in the nineteenth century, is perched on top of a mountain and gives stunning views of Udaipur.

Find peace and quiet while strolling in the Saheliyon-ki-Bar garden which is dotted with fountains, kiosks, marble elephants and ponds. Treat yourself to a visit to the Jagdish Temple which contains divine figures and you will surely be fascinated by the rich culture of this city.

Activity And Leisure Of This City

Udaipur offers a wide range of activities to make your stay even more interesting. While criss-crossing the alleys animated by stalls and bazaars, you will be able to buy authentic products of Udaipur.

You will not be surprised by the mini shows that local fans or artists offer, such as traditional puppet shows, magic tricks, traditional dances, acrobatics and snake charmers.

Udaipur is also conducive for a boat trip on the lake and hikes in its small mountain villages.

Discovering The Many Flavors Of India

To better know Udaipur, you have to explore its tasty, colorful and fragrant cuisine . You can choose between vegetarian dishes with sauces or "curry", dry grains, vegetables, cheese, curd, rice and Indian bread.

The non-vegetarian cuisine usually consists of mutton, chicken and almost no pork and beef or cow. Generally Indian sweets (jalebi, kulfi, rasgulla) are based on semolina, honey, milk, spices, pistachio or almond and tropical fruit. These pastries, you will find them everywhere in India, even in Udaipur.

Some people may find it inconvenient to take a regular/normal or super fast express train. For them, some of India's luxury trains are well known around the world and also running in Udaipur called The Maharajas’ Express Train, Deccan Odyssey Train and Palace on Wheels Train.
