FLOWER System to Maintain Your Car Effectively

When it comes to car maintenance not all of us are that sure what we are meant to be looking for, one missed detail can lead to a breakdown or cause an accident. It's wise to learn what you need to keep an eye on as some tests are not so obvious. The AA has a great way of car engine overheating remembering what you need to keep an eye on with regards to car maintenance called the FLOWER check.

FLOWER is an easy to remember acronym for the aspects of your car that you need to keep tabs on, some are easy to notice problems, where as some are not.

F - Fuel 

No one likes having to refuel, especially with petrol and diesel prices as high as they are these days. Make sure that you always have more petrol than you think you'll need as you never know when you'll next pass a petrol station, this applies particularly when traveling in somewhere new or unfamiliar.

L - Lights 

If your lights aren't working, many fellow motorists will be quick to let you know, often by flashing their own lights at you. As soon as you notice a bulb has blown or you have got crack on your lens then you should replace them immediately. It is good practice to make sure your lenses are clear of dirt, snow or any other material that could impede your lights' brightness.

O - Oil 

Oil level is something inexperienced drivers will not know to look out for, your car will sound drastically different if it is low on oil, typically a rattling, shrill sound means the engine could do with some lubrication. Failure to do so can cause serious engine damage which will be costly to rectify.

W - Water 

Many people will only think of their washer fluid level but your engine also needs the coolant bottle to be at the right level. You may find your car overheating if the water level is too low.

E - Electrics 

One of the most common breakdown faults is battery related; in most cases where a car fails to start, it is because of a discharged battery. If you have had the car for many years, it may be best to replace the battery before it becomes a problem.

R - Rubber 

Rubber or more specifically tires, are easy identified when they are running exceptionally low. If tires are under inflated at any level, fuel consumption can increase by as much as 5%. Buying a this site small tire pressure gauge will allow you to check your pressure easily and regularly.
