HOW TO PORT-FORWARD YOUR IMAXCAMPRO DVR (FOR CISCO ROUTERS)

Posted by ashishdynamite5 on July 15th, 2019

Viewing the live camera feed from your iMaxCam Pro on your computer is a big part of owning a security system. If you don’t have a more modern system that allows you to access your feed using P2P, then Port forwarding is your answer.

 What is port forwarding?

To break it down, Port forwarding allows the internet to be connected to a specific computer or service within a private local-area network. (or LAN). Your Internet service provider assigns one IP address to your internet connection. However, all individual devices connecting to the internet need a unique IP address to access it.

Inside your network, computers have their own individual addresses, like 192.168.0.100 or 192.168.0.44. Your router automatically assigns such an address to each computer connected to it via DHCP. These addresses are how computers in your network communicate with the router and with each other. The router then uses one main IP to connect with the internet on behalf of each of the devices in the private network. Port-forwarding is a way in which the router knows which device to send incoming connections to.

So let’s start by configuring the DVR to pick up an IP address:

First, Right Click on your local monitor screen and select “Main Menu”. Next, Select “Setting”. Select “Network”. Check the box next to “DHCP”, and click “Save”.

Great! Next, we need to Power Cycle the DVR:

First, Select “Shutdown”. Set to “Restart system” and click “OK”.

Now, we need to Identify the IP address we want to give the router. Right click and select “Main Menu” again. Select “Setting”. Select “Network”. Uncheck the box next to “DHCP”, and write down the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway. Click “Save”.

To setup port forwarding, your computer needs to have a static ip address. Or you can take a look at our Static IP Address guide to setup a static ip address. When you are finished setting up a static ip address, write it down and keep it handy.

Open a web browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. Enter the internal IP address of your router in the address bar of your browser. If you do not know your routers internal IP address please view our How To Find Your Routers IP Address guide.

In your browsers address bar, enter the internal IP address of your router. By default the IP address should be set to 192.168.1.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is admin. You already have a username and password, you’ll want to enter that instead. Once you’ve done this, Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Please visit our Default Router Passwords page if the default username and password we just gave did not work for you.

Once you see the router’s home page, Click the Applications & Gaming link near the top of the page. You should now see a new menu. In this new menu, click Port Range Forwarding.

We will list a series of lines here that will show cctv surveillance cameras how to forward the ports you need to forward. iMaxCamPro DVR requires you to forward the following ports: 80,37777,37778. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Port Range Forwarding menu.

You should see another page of settings that need to be entered into one of the blank lines on your routers Port Range Forwarding page. Go ahead and enter those settings now. When you’re finished, click Save Settings near the bottom of the screen to save your changes.
And that’s it! You’re done!

If the above process seems daunting or you are experiencing any issues, it might be time to upgrade to a security solution that does not require port-forwarding. P2P systems are more secure, much easier to set up, and easier to troubleshoot, because none of the above steps are required. Most newer systems use this method for these very reasons.
