Damaged fiber optic cable leads to internet outages across Lowcountry, southeast

Customers of Comcast and WOW reported an internet outage Tuesday afternoon which officials say is related to a damaged fiber optic cable.outdoor battery cabinet
A damaged fiber optic cable is responsible for the outage of WOW!'s internet, cable and phone services in the Charleston area, spokesperson Debra Havins said. WOW! engineers are on the site and are working to the repair the damage.
Havins said there was no estimated time by which service would be restored.
A Comcast spokesperson said the cable is owned by a provider that supplies internet service to multiple carriers, which is why customers of multiple companies are experiencing the outage.Outage maps for both Comcast and WOW at Down Detector show a large outage in the Lowcountry, as well as additional outages reported in Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland and Birmingham.
