Steps To Install A Carpet Yourself

It’s good to tackle your problem yourself and learn a few extra things in life like how to install carpet yourself. And also you can save money from money that you will pay to a profession for carpet installation in Fort Collins. Here’s how you can carry the procedure

Clean The Floor

Before you go ahead and unpack all the tools, carpet and secondary material it is important that the floor is completely clean. Therefore, clean the floor thoroughly and scrape away any fry flooring and get rid of any debris so that the carpet can stick for a long time.

Install Tack Strips

once the floor is clean and ready for the carpet the first step you take is spread the tack strips around the perimeter of the basement, stairs, support columns, in the closet to make a boundary of the area where the carpet is needed to be installed. Tack strips are also called as tackless so don’t get confused. There are pins angles on the tack strips to ensure the security and gripping of the carpet after stretching.

All the strips are required to be set ¼” away from the wall otherwise the carpet won’t tuck in properly. If there is an area where tiles and carpet will meet on the floor there a double row of tack strip is recommended because this area has heavy-traffic

Install Carpet Pad

For the purpose of carpet installation, typically a pad of 8lb. and ⅜” is used, during the procedure you can ask about other details from your manufacturer. A professional tip states that the height of the carpet shouldn’t exceed the height of tack strips because it can cause the carpet to come out. Start by unrolling and cutting the pad according to the area and leave 3-5” extra. Make sure that the adjacent pieces stick tightly to one other.

Take a few sharp blades to cut the excess edges neatly. The experts say that the blade needs to be very sharp and might need 6-8 blades for carpet installation. Lastly, add the adhesive around the perimeter of the area to stick the carpet pad.

Unroll The Carpet

Finally, it’s time that you take out your carpet. Before you start, take the proper measurements and make a plan that how are you going to fix the carpet. If the temperature of the room is less than around 65 degrees Fahrenheit then the carpet becomes difficult to stretch because of stiffness.

Cut the Carpet Roughly

Just like the carpet pads start cutting the carpet roughly leaving behind the excess length to be trimmed later. For this, you will need a professional carpet knife. Lay down all the carpets parallelly with the excess lengths.

Cut Carpet Seams

For a seamless look make sure you cut the carpet very carefully. Use a knitting needle to clear the path and make a straight line to make the cutting process easier. After cutting the edges carefully next step is to tightly adjust carpet butt against each other.

Glue Carpet Seams

Once you are satisfied with how the carpets look the next step is gluing the seams. For this, you will need a seaming tape. Start by cutting the seaming tapes positioning them between the carpet and pad. After applying the tape wait for 30 seconds to let it settle down and then use an iron seam roller to make it stick.

Cutting and Stretching Carpet To The Size

Use a knee-kicker to stretch the carpet and the wall trimmer to cut the excess. Be careful near the doors, closet, staircase. It takes 6-8 hours to completely install the carpet but once it’s done you will feel the whole hard work was worth it.
