Four Ways to Engage Your Kids in Healthy Nutrition and Physical Activity

Posted by Jason Waler on July 29th, 2019

I am an advocate of kids play. I am always looking out for ways to make my kids happy and healthy. Children during their early years of life have the perfect age to understand the importance of healthy nutrition and physical activity. Here are four ways parents and educators can talk to their kids about the benefits of having smart food and a healthy play.

Model Your Behavior

Kids have a strong sense of observation and parents are their first source of learning. If we fill out plates with healthy food and prioritize exercise, we are actually inviting our kids to join our efforts to stay healthy. When your kids will see you make healthy choices, they are more likely to follow you and make wise choices.

Make Play Fun-Filled

If you want to inculcate the habit of physical activity in kids, the try to make the play as interesting as possible. Their play must include fun activities. You can also encourage the schools and society to introduce new church playground equipment for motivating kids to play. Similarly, biking, hiking, and dancing are fun activities to do.

Take Help from Visual Aids

If you want your kids to learn about healthy food and nutrition facts, then you can take help from visual aids. Hands-on demos and videos help kids see and understand concepts like serving sizes and sugar content. For example, you can show your kids that a glass of soda may contain more than 10 scoops of sugar and how damaging it can be for their health.

Understand Your Body

The human body has a harmonious and synchronized system that needs maintenance. Just like your car needs a high-grade fuel to perform optimally, explain to your kids that their body also needs a balanced diet to fuel it and exercise for functioning optimally. Teach your kids what a balanced diet is and why their body needs these foods for a healthy being. Inform them how exercising can help your body function properly.

It is our responsibility as parents to teach our kids about the importance of a healthy diet and physical activity and how these habits can benefit them in the long run. But don’t overemphasize and keep it simple to make it fun and joy to follow for kids.
