Do You Respond to Every Blog Comments and Why?

Posted by CS Web Solutions on July 30th, 2019

Every blogger has an entirely different objective when it comes to creating a blog; there is no unanimous evaluation of success and there is really no right or wrong. However, for me, it is ALWAYS about creating something that is way more than “one of those blogs”.

For me, blogging is about being able to meet new people, network, share ideas, make friends, build meaningful relationships and to create a platform that will help different bloggers learn a lot of things. Maybe you have the same train of thought. You started your blog because you just love to write and because you want to share your ideas with different people, and also learn one or two things from them.

If you have enabled the comments feature on your blog (which I am pretty sure that a lot of you have done), then this simply means that you expect readers of your blog to interact by leaving comments after reading your post. Then, why do so many bloggers leave questions or comments on their blog unanswered or acknowledged?

Think about it, it is pretty much like giving a nice presentation to a roomful of people and simply choose not to respond to comments and questions from the audience. If this is not the height of rudeness, I really do not know what is! For some weird reason, it is becoming the norm for bloggers not to reply to questions or comments that have been made on their post – then, why enable the comments feature?!

For big-shot bloggers with hundreds or even thousands of comments on every post, it is obviously pretty difficult to respond to every single comment. However, you need to admit that it is really nice when big-shots take out time to answer questions and acknowledge comments, true?

The Truth: a lot of us are not yet “hot-shot” bloggers and we can spare the time to respond to comments from readers. Alas, a lot of us do not!

I am friends with many successful bloggers, and one of them told me that he took out time to respond to every single question and comment posted on his blog in order to just find out what would happen; he said that the results he got was simply amazing. He said that many of his readers told him how much they loved the fact that he took out the time to respond to their comments. Some of his readers even sent him a personal email in order to say a “big thank you” to him.

This is the part where you say “must I respond to comments on my blog? I am so busy, why should I even squeeze out the extra time to respond to readers?”

Here are the top reasons why you need to respond to every comment on your blog:

Get More Social Proof!

For those who do not know this; social proof is pretty much an emotional phenomenon that happens when an individual's judgments are majorly influenced by simply making the assumption that surrounding individuals know more about particular situations than they do. For instance, if you are in a local market and see a large crowd of people gathered around a particular trader, there is a huge possibility that you are going to walk over there to find out what the fuss is about. Similarly, one may be quite inclined to choose to follow certain bloggers in a niche because they have a huge amount of followers and subscribers than other bloggers.

You need to understand that your very own comments will also count towards the total comment count on your blog post. If you respond to 20 comments, you will have an overall comment count of 40! This is way more interesting and impressive to devoted readers and new visitors to your site.

It Will Encourage Readers to Keep Commenting

No one wants to leave comments on a site that is notorious for leaving comments unread. By simply taking the time to reply, you will not only let your readers know that you are enthusiastically involved in reading the comments that they have left; but you will also be encouraging them to keep coming back to read and comment on your blog.

In addition to this, those who do not have a habit of commenting on blogs may choose to comment on yours because they know that their comments will be read.

The Quality of your Posts will Be Greatly Enhanced

A reader’s reply can most times lead to side comments within the commenting area which will add to the overall quality of the post(s) you have uploaded. The points that you have made may be further broken down and explained. Some readers may even choose to comment on the questions asked by other readers. Some may buttress your points with their own unique experiences. Most people enjoy discussing a controversial issue, while some just love to share their wisdom and first-hand experiences with other readers on the comment section.

It Boosts Search Engine Optimization

Believe it or not, the comments on your posts actually help a great deal with search engine optimization (commonly known as SEO) – although, it helps with SEO in a minimal way (I must confess).

More comments; this includes the comments you make, typically mean more examples of the keywords or key-phrases that you have used while uploading your posts; this means that your blog is more likely to be found in the search engines for those keywords/key-phrases.

In addition to this, new targeted words that you did not even use in your blog posts will be brought up and talked about; which contribute to boosting your SEO.

Build Authority and Credibility

When you respond to every comment on your blog, you are simply establishing yourself as the go-to pro in your niche. Replying comments will make you appear much more real and perceived as a person who dedicates his/her time to care about readers – this act adds value not just to you but to your blog as well.

Because a lot of bloggers fail to respond to comments, you are sure to standout and from the rest. If you ensure that you only leave meaningful and very smart comments, you are sure to make a great impact on your readers.

Think about it, it would not cost you anything to put in the extra time to reply to comments on your blog – so, do yourself a great big favor and Just Do It!
