5 Fun and Cheery Dance Songs for Toddlers

Posted by Mainstage Center for the Arts on July 31st, 2019

When it comes to teaching a toddler how to dance, it should be less technical and more carefree and relaxed. You should not teach your toddlers to move like someone else. Instead, your focus should be encouraging your toddler to simply move his or her body to the rhythm of the music. As toddlers get older, you can enroll them in classes that teach creative dance to young children.

But for now, here are some fun, cheery songs that will get your toddlers on their feet in no time:

  1. “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake

Whether it is the contagious rhythm or the phenomenal vocal range in this everyday jam-worthy song, it surely has the power to get even adults dancing. Especially when Justin keeps saying “dance, dance, dance, dance,” how can you not oblige? And the best part? The song was featured in one of the most popular children’s movies: Trolls

  1. “Macarena” by Los Del Rio

This Spanish song was released in 1990. Even though it’s been quite some time since it hit the scene, its catchy beat and the amazing dance moves span generations. And we can bet that your kids will love it. The song was once ranked the greatest one-hit-wonder of all times. Also, the song was performed by Miss Piggy in Muppets Most Wanted.

  1. “Thriller” by Michael Jackson

Learning to glide around the room to the rhythm of “Thriller” is a great way for you to spend an afternoon with your toddler. The dance moves may be a little tough, but your toddler doesn’t need to perfect them anyway. The steps can turn even the most boring of days into a one filled with fun and excitement.

  1. “Boomerang” by JoJo Siwa

JoJo Siwa is so famous among children today that your child can probably teach you how to dance to this song. Little tots love jumping around to the happy, upbeat sounds of the song as JoJo sings about school, friendship and the importance of staying true to yourself. Those are some important life lessons!

  1. “Party in the U.S.A.” by Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus may be more famous among those born in the 2000s, but who says your toddler cannot enjoy her music? This song, released when she was still playing Hannah Montana, is fun, peppy and perfect for dancing.

If you see that your child has a love for dancing and his or her tiny feet are constantly trying to perfect the steps, then maybe you can even sign them up for ballet or Broadway jazz dance classes at Mainstage Performing Arts Academy or School of Dance.
