The Gift I'm Giving to Everyone This Year - Audiobooks

Posted by Amy Brotherman on August 8th, 2019

I've decided to plan for Christmas early this year. No more last minute miserable trips to Walmart for me! Have you ever been there? Wandering the dirty-tiled low-lit flourescent aisles of Walmart with a shuffling pajama clad person next to you trying to get by?

I am a mother of three in the midwest. Any mom here will tell you - our second home is Walmart. And we all hate it. But if you have multiple kids, you can't reasonably shop at Whole Foods on a weekly basis for your basic needs unless you are loaded with cash.

So - Walmart it is. (Mostly I try to order online and do the pickup, but alas, sometimes we live last minute). But I digress. And, speaking to last minute - that's what I'm trying to avoid this holiday.

Dang it! I want the joy and peace of the holidays to come back. I miss it! And I do still feel it - But SO many of my winter days are spent feverishly preparing, heading to the store, making plans and baking, baking, baking.

Which - I like to bake. I like to plan. I like to buy gifts and give them. It's not that I don't LIKE to do these things. I just don't like to do 100 of them at once every day for weeks.

So - planning now. I run a blog called mythreereaders.com, and it's all about kids and reading, providing encouragement and tools for parents and teachers of beginning and struggling readers. Maybe I should give a gift that encourages reading? I feel like it's becoming a lost art, to read for fun and enjoyment.

Recently I wrote an article about Audible on my blog - how it works, and how to use it for audiobooks. So I'm thinking this year I can give a gift of an Audible membership for period of time to family members.

In our family, we have an account, so I can gift fun audiobooks to my family, print out the covers to the books and stick them in stocking stuffers. Maybe I can even figure out a way to give audiobooks as a gift to some of my kid's teachers for the holidays.

I'd just like to promote reading to not only my blog audience, but also my own family. And I think this will be a great way to do this!

Do you have any fun ways to promote reading during the holidays through gift giving? I'm thinking books, magazines, bookmarks, etc. I'd love to hear your ideas!
