Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy were to catch a flight from Mumbai to Nairobi. Prannoy and Radhika are facing investigation by CBI and Enforcement Directorate. These two people were accompanied by some other people.

NDTV founder Prannoy and his wife Radhika Roy, who were facing corruption charges, were barred from departing for overseas at Mumbai airport on Friday. The action was taken on the basis of the Preventive Lookout Circular (LoC) issued by the CBI. NDTV said in a statement that the duo were “stopped on the basis of a fake and baseless case of corruption initiated by the CBI two years ago”.

CBI officials in Delhi said that a notice of caution (LoC) was issued against them for caution in June in a case related to alleged fraud involving ICICI Bank. Officials said that both were prevented from leaving the country on the basis of this notice. LOC is issued with the purpose of preventing a person from leaving the country. Agencies can prevent a person from going out on the basis of this, but it cannot be detained.

Officials said that this LoC is just to prevent both of them from leaving the country, not to take them into custody. The company has not stated in the statement where the two were going. However, she said both were scheduled to return on 16 August from a foreign trip. The company said, “The raid on the media company owners and today’s action is a warning to the media people that if they say yes to yes, then they should take action.” The company said that it was “completely a violation of fundamental rights.”

In the statement, NDTV called these two founders ‘journalists’. However, the company has not revealed what reason they were going abroad. Two years ago in the alleged bank fraud case, the locations of NDTV owner Roy were raided by the Central Investigation Agency CBI.

The CBI, after registering an FIR on June 2, 2017, said in a statement that it was not investigating the debt default but violated RBI regulations, SEBI guidelines and interest on the company’s debt on behalf of ICICI Bank Is investigating the rate reduction. The bank had allegedly suffered a loss of Rs 48 crore.

Earlier, Naresh Goyal, the promoter of an airline company undergoing insolvency, and his wife were prevented from going abroad. The action was taken after the Enforcement Directorate filed a money laundering case against him.
