Is probationary period a threat to your job security?

A lot more than often, the thought “Is my job in danger?” crosses the mind of the new employee. When? Clearly, when an individual is on a probationary period and even more when he has been extended a probation extension letter. Why? It is because the whole purpose of probation is to keep a check on the performance and worth of the employees so that the employer can oust the employee if he falls short on any of the expectations (or maybe, even if he doesn’t).
Job security is something that even a fresher and a millennial seeks. Think of the working individuals who run a family through their earnings and imagine how frightful the constant fear of firing is for them.

If you are also one of the new employees in an organization and going through a similar fear, this is the right blog for you.

Let us see if it is just in your head or the probation period is really a threat to your job security.

You get to try the company too

Agreed! The company is keeping you on probation so that it can fire you or hand you a probation extension letter. However, the other way around to see this is as a benefit of yours is that even you can leave the company when you want to. It isn’t always the company who can fire you, you can leave at your will from the office whenever you want. For instance, just like the employer will test you on the basis of your performance, you should also know that as an employee the place should suit your mind and heart too. What if you don’t like the colleagues, you aren’t finding the environment cooperative, warm and welcoming. You may not find the job challenging or making optimum use of your skills. So, you may yourself not like the company and thus start looking for new jobs. So, at this time as soon as you will find a better job and environment, you yourself can also resign from the position.

You get to prove your worth

Why to take the probation period in a negative manner? Take it as a challenge, prove yourself and earn it. None- the company or you can judge each other perfectly by talking for a few hours i.e the interview. So, consider it as an opportunity to impress the company, your manager, colleagues and stakeholders even more with your performance.

You earn the benefits in return

Do you know the ultimate benefit you get? When you will be confirmed after the probation period instead of being handed over the probation extension letter, you will get a lot of benefits. For instance, the leaves, and the priveleges from many work policies that confirmed employees enjoy. Moreover, during the probation period, you will also come off as a more sincere and dedicated employee than you actually would be.

So, all in all, this period is great for you as an employee as well. Also, why to fear when you are already a performer? If you are true and honest with your work and are following the company policies properly, you should not fear the probation period.
