World of Warcraft Classic login queues could cross 10,000 players

Blizzard is warning World of Warcraft Classic players that, if enrollment holds as it is, one of its realms would face “login queues in excess of 10,000 players ... and possibly much higher than that.” WoW Classic doesn’t launch until Aug. 27, a week from Tuesday, but last week Blizzard started opening up the game for character name reservations. Based on the activity they’ve seen, “the Herod realm is looking to be massively overpopulated,” community manager Kaivax wrote.

It turns out, so many people put 20p down on the Herod realm that it's going to be massively populated. Actually, scratch that. It's going to be almost impossible to get into. In a post on Battle.net, community manager Kaivax issued a plea to players who intend to play on Herod to change server. Or what? Or this: "If all existing players on this server remain there, login queues in excess of 10,000 players are a certainty, and possibly much higher than that." With so many players reserving their player names on the game’s primary server, Herod, Blizzard explained that there will be mass overpopulation upon the game’s launch. Taking to the Battle.net community forums, community manager Kaivax exclaimed that Blizzard is urging players to move servers.

“Our high precedence in planning for WoW Basic’s launch has been guaranteeing that we’re laying the groundwork for sturdy realm communities that can endure over the months and years to comply with,” they wrote, “which is why we’re cautiously opening new servers to meet demand.”
