Gautam Gambhir: Rohit Needs to Train under Dravid or Tendulkar

Rohit Sharma has been getting a lot of praises in the cricket community. He scored 648 runs in 9 matches at an average of 81 during the World Cup which earned him 5 centuries and one fifty under his name. In the ongoing West Indies Tour, Sharma scored 24 during the T20I and then 67 off 51 in the second match.

Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir praised Rohit’s impressive performance in limited-overs series. He said that Sharma should maintain his form and train under cricket legends like Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

“He needs to carry this batting form into Test cricket. I’d go on to say that if someone like a Rahul Dravid or Sachin Tendulkar mentors him for a few months, we may get a completely polished, Test-ready batsman. Sometimes Rohit just seems bored in Test cricket,” he said.

Sharma ranked no. 2 in ODI’s and has the most earned double-centuries.  What worries Gambhir is that the batsman is not yet developed in terms of Test series.

“So flawless has been his display that even a coaching manual is looking like a grey market “first copy”. I think this is the moment when Rohit needs someone in his ears to convey the importance of this form. He needs to convert this into big and consistent scores.”

The former cricketer believes that Sharma can still improve his batting skills with little adjustments. He said that this would help India national cricket team in longer versions of the game.

India is scheduled to play their last stretch in T20I tonight at Providence Stadium, Guyana. The team’s next assignment is three sets of ODI’s and two-Test match series which is included in the World Test Championship.
