Basic Garage Roller Door Repairs You Can Do On Your Own

Some problems could be simple like some debris stuck in the opener and can be fixed just as easily. Other problems need an expert to conduct the garage roller door repair in Colorado Spring. It’s highly recommended that you do not try fixing your garage door on your own because these doors are heavy and have many parts which can cause injuries. The springs should not be touched as they work under a lot of tension and if they come loose they will fire off at enough speed to kill you. However, there are a few things that you can do by yourself to get your garage door working again:

Basic Garage Door Fixes

  • Check if the motor has been plugged, plug it all the way in if it is not.

  • If the remote isn’t working, try moving closer to the door and see if it’s working.

  • Try replacing the remote control or keypad batteries.

  • Try resetting the remote control or keypad.

  • Check the close/open limit settings, this might be the reason that the door doesn’t open or close completely. Adjust the settings and see if it works properly.

  • Check if the power is out. Sometimes the reason the door won’t budge is a simple blackout. It should turn back on after the power returns.

  •  Check if the fuse has short-circuited. This can be the case, especially if you have multiple devices plugged into your garage’s circuits. Fix the circuit and check if the roll-up door is working.

  • Try lubricating the door roller. They might be stiff due to winter, rust or dents.

  • Check if there is anything blocking the safety sensors and clear it.

  • Try readjusting the safety sensors to make sure that they are aligned with each other, or else the door won’t close.

  • Try readjusting the door’s closing-force settings, sometimes it needs more pressure to close.

  • Check the roller door tracks for dirt and grime, and clean it with a concentrated household cleaner and finally wipe it dry.

  • Try lubricating the tracks with a silicone spray.

  • Check if the mounting brackets that hold the tracks are loose. Tighten the screws and bolts.

  • Check the tracks for dents and flat spots, hammer them with a rubber mallet or hammer and a block.

  • Check if the tracks are aligned to each other’s level. If they aren’t, loosen their screws and bolts without removing them, tap them into place, make sure they are aligned this time and tighten the screws. Check again to be sure.

  • Check the hinges which hold the door together for loose screws and tighten them. Make sure they are realigned. If the screw hole is loose, use a longer screw with the same diameter and a hollow plug to screw the hinge. If the wall is cracked, fill it and then screw the hinge to the place. If the hinges are damaged replace them.

  • Check if the rollers are out of alignment. If they are, remove the automatic opener from the door using the string, now you can open it manually. Open the door partially such that the rollers are aligned to the problem spots on the track. Hold one of the track tightly and pry its open part wider with a plier. Insert the roller back into their proper position on the track, repeat the process for the other track. Hammer the tracks close with the help of a small wooden block. Open and close the doors to see if it’s working. Attach the automatic opener.

If you find yourself in a position where the spring needs to be repaired or replaced or you are not sure about what you are doing, you should call a professional to do the garage roller door repair in Colorado Spring.
