Known as the "City of Arts and Innovation," Riverside, California offers some of the most breathtaking historic architecture in southern California. These stunning historic buildings feature cultural events and exhibits that will amaze visitors as well as those seeking a new home in Riverside. The Mission Inn, the Fox Theatre, and a number of museums make Riverside a top destination for art lovers, history buffs, and families.

Fox Performing Arts Center

This theater, located in downtown Riverside, was built in 1929 as a cinema and venue for live performances. A renovation in 2007 preserved its Spanish Colonial Revival architecture while adding modern upgrades.

Built by William Fox, founder of the Fox Film Corporation, the theater showcases musicians from around the world. The Broadway at the Fox series presents shows such as the Blue Man Group, Cirque Dreams, and musicals such as An American in Paris.

Mission Inn

A spectacular example of Mission Revival style architecture, this 4-diamond hotel is open to the public and houses a number of historic and cultural features. The inn itself, built as a boardinghouse in 1876, includes two chapels and stained glass windows designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The inn's grounds include the Nanjing Bell, which was forged in 1247, and an eight-foot-tall Buddha statue from Japan.

The inn hosts a number of community events throughout the year, including Riverside's famous Festival of Lights. This festival is known as the largest light festival in the United States. Animated figures, horse-drawn carriages, and a real snowfall are just some of the highlights of this spectacular event.

Museums and 1st Sundays

Riverside is known for its many museums. The Mission Inn museum; the California Museum of Photography on the University of California, Riverside campus; the Riverside Art Museum; and La Sierra University's natural history and culture museums are just a few of Riverside's destinations for art and education.

On the first Sunday of every month, the Fox Performing Arts Center; the Mission Inn; the Riverside Public Library; the University of California, Riverside's ARTS Block; and a number of museums collaborate on family-friendly educational events. Past 1st Sundays have included themes such Riverside's history of citrus farming, a Chinese New Year celebration, and hands-on activities featuring local insects and sea creatures.

If you're looking for a new home in Riverside, or just visiting the area, be sure to take advantage of the city's rich culture and arts opportunities.
