Umrah Plus Visa

As in the past, the pilgrims for Hajj and Umrah were not allowed to visit other Islamic places but to stay within the three cities such as Makkah, Medina, and Jeddah. But now pilgrims can enjoy visiting other Islamic Historical places in the Saudi Kingdom by the permission SCTA. This visa will allow the pilgrims to visit other cities of Saudi Arabia apart from Makkah, Medina, and Jeddah, after performing Umrah.

Since the issuance of Umrah visa along with other sites will increase growth in the tourism as well as the hospitality sector, so the Administration has improved and developed the infrastructure of roads and the rail networks in order to facilitate the pilgrims rush and to serve better the business visitors as well.

Not only are the visiting spots permissible but also business activities that surround exhibitions and antiquities would be focused more. Worldwide members from all corner of the world get attracted to the trade exhibitions held in Riyadh every year. In this regard, the Riyadh Exhibitions Company has already amassed 330 displays in the domain of automotive and energy, food and beverages which welcomed worldwide guests from 40 countries almost.

Off-course the income produced through the tourism, boosts the economy of any country, so that is the reason the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has an array of historic edifices and places that the Muslims love to visit but under their normal Umrah visa once they were not allowed to travel outside Makkah, Medina, and Jeddah. So, to keep in view such matter to strengthen the tourism industry of the Kingdom, Saudi Government has planned to introduce “Umrah-plus” visa that will let Muslims visit historical Islamic places that are beyond three cities.

Prince Sultan bin Salman Al Saud the chairman of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities has reported that Saudi Arabia is already on its way to restore and build several museums and more attractive places in Makkah and Medina based on Islamic theme.

Additionally, in pursuit of tourism growth, the Heritage hotels are also going through the construction phase to provide the amenities to the visitors.

According to a report, revenue from tourism was 10 percent for the year 2012 that summed up to 61.8 billion riyals (USD 61.5 billion). Yet, the religious visitors and pilgrims were a notable contribution to tourism.

Therefore, within Umrah visa, the pilgrims will be allowed to stay in Saudi Arabia for a period of 28 days during which they will perform the rituals of pilgrimage and explore the Ziyarahs in the two Holy Cities. On the other hand, with the issuance of Umrah-plus visas, the pilgrims will be allowed to take a managed tour to the cultural and religious sites besides Makkah and Medina.

Subsequently, people from all over the world have a great interest in Islamic history, so the opening up of visas to other countries will apparently create a large entry of tourists and scholars to Saudi Arabia. However, Riyadh and Jeddah could become hubs for transportation between the East and West in the near future.
