6 Tips to Attend A Wine Tasting Event

Posted by Perry on August 28th, 2019

A wine lover always keeps a tab on upcoming wine tasting events to avoid missing out any chance to relish the taste of vintage wine. Wine tasting is an exciting event. You will see, people swirling and sipping their wine glasses, talking about how good the taste of a particular wine is. Such events can be a little overwhelming for a new person though. When you are unaware of wine tasting etiquettes, you cannot fully enjoy tasting wine like others. Therefore, follow the given wine tasting tips before heading for an event:

Dress According to the Event

While visiting a wine tasting event, wearing clothes that are dark in color is preferred as they hide spills. Women can consider wearing low heels or flats to stay comfortable and tie up long hair to spit easily. As you will be carrying around a wineglass everywhere, you have to keep another hand free to accomplish other tasks, like taking notes or having food. So, skip taking anything extra with you.

Avoid wearing fragrance

Wine tasting is incomplete without relishing the aroma of wine before you savor the flavor. By wearing cologne, you do not want to introduce any new scent to the tasting area and spoil the fun.

Keep munching in between

When you don’t want to get drunk, keep eating something while tasting wines. Having wine on an empty stomach, even in little portion, isn’t good and prevents you from enjoying the rest of the event.

Spitting is important

Don’t be hesitant to spit when you don’t want to miss other wines out there. Spitting is absolutely fine. That’s why there are big spit buckets at around every table. Also, you can pour out leftovers as there is no compulsion on finishing your wine.

Keep taking notes

To keep a record, either you can note down wine names or click a picture. Despite consistent spitting, after a couple of days, you may forget which wine you like the best. After all, keeping everything recorded in mind isn’t possible after spending an evening smelling and tasting numerous wines.

Be prepared for Red-Wine Teeth

Drinking red wines means staining your teeth. Unless you have a problem leaving the event without doing anything about teeth, make sure to drink water now and then. Also, you can have a chewing gum when you are done with tasting wines.
