Major Tourist places in Kolkata and famous wildlife sanctuaries in India

Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal was first not considered to be a travel destination. Since a couple of years, things have changed. Here are some significant tourist places in Kolkata,

1. Victoria Memorial

Now a museum, named after Queen Victoria, Victoria Memorial holds paintings, sculptures, artwork, and a number of books from the British era. The architecture looks royal and stunning even today. It is a must visit on a trip to Kolkata.

2. Howrah Bridge

Howrah Bridge was opened for public in 1943. It is one of the most unique bridges in the world because it is linked to a riverbed without any pylons. Rabindra Setu is the official name of the bridge. One of the busiest bridges in the world, you have to witness it at least once.

Famous Wildlife sanctuaries in India,

1. Sundarban National Park

Home to the national animal, Sundarban National Park is spread across 10,000 sq. kms between India and Bangladesh. Over a few years, Sundarban has helped grow Tiger population. This mangrove forest has a huge Crocodile and Snake population too.

2. Gir National Park

The home of Asian Lions, Gir National Park is spread across 1412 sq. kms. The National park also has Striped Hyenas, Nilgai, Golden Jackals and Blackbuck. Gir is trying to save the Asiatic Lion and hence it is supervised all throughout even during the safaris.

3. Kaziranga National Park

Home to world’s rarest magnificent one-horned Rhinoceroses, Kaziranga National Park is also a World heritage site. It is shut during the monsoon season. Eastern Swamp Deer and Wild Asiatic water buffalo are some of the exotic species also found here. It also houses many other species of birds and animals.
