Improving the Wall Thickness of Castings and Striving for Uniformity

In the production process of alloy steel castings, the most worrying problem is the generation of cracks. Today we will talk about how to solve this problem for cold cracks.

Solution:

1. Improve the casting structure wall thickness to uniform, the corner should make transition fillet, reduce stress concentration phenomenon. The spokes of wheel castings can be bent if necessary.

2. Adopting correct casting process measures to realize simultaneous solidification of castings is not only helpful to prevent hot cracks, but also helpful to prevent cold cracks. The position and size of the gating head should be set reasonably to make the cooling speed of each part of the casting as uniform as possible. Correctly determining the residence time of the casting in the sand mold, the sand mold is a good heat preservation container, which can further homogenize the temperature at the thicker and thinner parts of the casting, reduce the temperature difference between them and reduce the thermal stress.

3. Improve the smelting quality of alloy materials, and adopt refining and initial process to remove oxide inclusions and gases in the metal industry. Control the content of harmful impurities and adopt reasonable smelting process to prevent cold cracks.

4. Extend the residence time of the casting in the mold so as to avoid large internal stress in the casting due to premature unpacking. Collision and extrusion shall be avoided during sand falling, cleaning and handling.

In fact, the most fundamental reason is the choice of materials and casting process. We users should pay attention to the choice of materials and strictly control the casting process in the future.
