The Battle Royale type was a subgenre of the FPS Genre or the First Person Shooter type games. PC gaming has evolved considerably over the past couple of decades. The incredible graphical changes that have happened over the years are simply breathtaking.

From the ages of Doom, Quake, and Half-Life to the recent Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, Fortnite and Apex Legends, First Person Shooter Games have come quite far now. The age of Doom and Quake is arguably one of the most legendary as well as path breaking times in the FPS genre.

The introduction of physics and meticulous gameplay in Half-Life paired with the riddled storyline gave birth to a new fascination as far as first-person shooters are concerned. A mod or modification of the game from individual game developers led to the creation of a brand that has gone stronger and stronger ever since - Counter-Strike.

Rivaling with the Call of Duty franchise, Counter-Strike has been there in the mix neck and neck. Currently, the professional scene of the latest Counter-Strike version, known as Counter-Strike Global Offensive, has grown exponentially.

However, from a players’ perspective, the FPS genre simply isn’t the entire thing to ponder about. The Battle Royale genre exploded into the scene when it came into the limelight with the game Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds.

The Battle Royale Genre made its mark briefly with games like Arma, DayZ, H1Z1, etc. These games had a sizeable market but something was missing in them to make it a market puller. In came PUBG and everything was thrown out of the window, for at least a year.

People started playing it more than anything else. A year later, Fortnite was released which had graphics a touch towards to animated side compared to the more realistic PUBG. The preferred age-group of this specific game was lower than PUBG’s.

The popularity among kids made Fortnite the biggest game in the FPS genre. Some pundits don’t like the skill ceiling that is in the game. However, the sales of PUBG, be it digitally or via Custom Printed CDs, or the number of downloads of Fortnite is not showing the same picture.

Fortnite was criticized a lot more than PUBG simply because of the low skill as far as mechanics is concerned. Nonetheless, this subgenre of FPS games certainly made a massive impact and had everyone talking about it.
