All about current transformers: applications, types, and usage!!

Current transformers are mainly used in electrical engineering and apart from this; they are also used to measure electric currents. They are a kind of electrical instruments that are produced specially to offer a flow of current in the circuit which is correctly perpendicular to the current flowing in the primary circuit. When the primary current is too high they produce a current proportional to the current present in the circuit, and this can be moreover connected to measuring and recording instruments.

Applications of current transformers:

There are various applications of current transformers. While some of them are used in street lighting, others are particularly used to measure current in electronic devices and motors. On the other hand, transformers that have small footprints are carefully mounted on PCBs, and they are also used to sense overloads of current. The commercial current transformers are basically used to measure low power currents, and some others are manufactured specifically for outdoor use.

Types:

There are two types of current transformers namely:

-         Toroidal

-         Wound

Wound transformers mainly have an integral primary winding that is inserted properly with the conductor which carries the measured current. Toroidal transformers, on the other hand, do not have winding, and the wire that carries current is threaded in the toroidal transformer.

Different usage:

Current transformers are used to get secondary current so as to produce electricity from the transformers and, also help to get safe capacity of power at high voltage needs. Mainly, they are used to offer a stream of power correctly upright to the voltage that is flowing in the main course of electricity.

Moreover, current transformers can also be used to make secondary voltage in order to produce power from the transformer and to check out the flow of electricity and supervise the power used. The current transformer measures the power availed from the transformer with the function of two parameters that facilitate flexibly and alter the system of every unit so that they can properly work with the procedure.

Current transformers also enhance the supply of voltage from the transformer and furthermore supply adequate power to the user. They even assist to supply power under high as well as low voltage. Besides, there are various factors that increase the total accuracy of the workings of the current transformers, namely burden, physical configuration, rating factor and so on. The basics of these factors are very necessary for the reliable operation of the transformers.

Moreover, due to the function of these transformers and the type of applications they are being used to work, it’s now a legal requirement that they should be manufactured and conforms to their standards. It is important that these current transformers are designed accordingly the requirements and needs of the clients keeping in mind the standards of their manufacturing.
