If you want to have an authentic East-European experience you should come to Romania. To start your trip in Romania, we recommend you stop first in Sibiu. A stroll through the narrow streets of the medieval city can be a good opportunity to discover the most hidden places. Secret passages, teahouses, the oldest restaurant in Romania, guild towers, old houses adorned with flowers and the Bridge of Lies.

The Astra Museum

Dumbrava Sibiului Natural Park is home to the largest outdoor museum, the Astra Museum. It is one of the few places in our country where you can still find the specific farms of each rural area, as they were built by former craftsmen. The whole ensemble is a representation of the life of the Romanian village.

You can find out about the traditional crafts, you can enjoy the Romanian cuisine, see how the wine is made at once, or try the scranciobul-distraction of children from Moldova.

Within the complex, all kinds of cultural events are organized, and during the season you can go by boat on the lake from here. The Astra Museum can be visited from Monday to Sunday, between 9 and 17 hours.

Big market

The most famous place in Sibiu is without a doubt Piata Mare. The Tower of Advice that was built here in the 13th century is the most photographed sight. And it has why! It has a rich history, having several roles: observation tower, fire tower, grain depot, prison and museum. Nowadays this space is dedicated to the different arts.

Little Market

Through the beautiful city of Sibiu, on the narrow streets of the center the cars do not fit, so the best options remain the bicycle or the walking rides. Thus we reach the Little Square and pass in alert step towards the Bridge of Lies, one of the many symbols of the city.

The bridge of Lies

Did you know that it is the oldest functional bridge, cast iron, in Romania? Its name is related to a legend of the place that tells the story of those caught lying on this bridge. It is said that the bridge had ears to hear every birth, and at the hearing of lies the construction trembled until it brought the liar with his feet to the ground.

The passage of the Stairs

The fortified city of Sibiu has numerous passages, narrow streets, defense walls used as a protection measure for the enemy. The Passage of the Stairs is part of the belt of fortifications and connects the Downtown with the Upper Town. It was built in the 14th century and is one of the most beautiful areas in Sibiu, with small shops and cozy terraces.

Zoo

The Sibiu Zoological Garden is the oldest in Romania, being established in 1929. From then until today, Dumbrava Park is home to herbivorous, carnivorous and omnivorous animals, both from species found in our country as well as exotic animals.

At the entrance to the garden you will be greeted by a secular oak, which has a venerable age, 600 years. Hence the inspiration for choosing the street name: Secular Oak, Calea Dumbravii 142. Ticket prices are as if they were in the past. A ticket for an adult costs 3 lei, 2 lei pay the students, students and pensioners, and the little ones, up to 3 years old, have free admission.

Huet Square

Another place worth seeing, in the journey through one of the most beautiful cities in Transylvania is Huet Square. The main attraction of the market is the Evangelical Cathedral, built between 1371-1520, in Gothic style.
