Different Types and Categories of Bricks Explained in Detail

When it comes to constructing a new house or building, you need to tackle with a wide range of problems. Building a house or building is expensive, but it is one investment that will pay off.  Bricks are an important element of any construction process.  Bricks play  a vital role in adjusting the temperature of the building  by storing heat and cooling the air.  Besides, comfort and creating a pleasant indoor climate, bricks offers numerous financial advantages as well.   Houses or buildings that are made up of bricks cost less in the long run because they need less energy for heating.  According to the researches, it has been found that houses made up of bricks are best fit for lower energy consumption.  Bricks look attractive and offer higher values.
Brick is one of the oldest building materials. Brick machines are used to produce bricks that can be used for construction purposes.  Bricks form the foundation of pillars,  internal walls and road surfaces. Depending on the purpose of your construction,  different types of bricks are used.

Some of the common types of bricks are mentioned as below:


•    Airbricks-  Airbricks contain large holes to circulate air and lessen weight. Airbricks are used in cavity walls and suspended floors.

•    Perforated bricks- Perforated bricks contain cylindrical holes which are drilled throughout the brick.  Perforated bricks are light in weight.

•    Brick Veneers-  Brick veneers are commonly used for surface cladding. These bricks are usually thin.

•    Bullnose brick-  Bullnose bricks are molded with round angles.

•    Paving bricks- Paving bricks contain a good amount of iron. These bricks are used in underfoot paving applications.

•    Hollow bricks- As the name suggests, hollow bricks are hollow and are used in partition walls where load-bearing is not required.

•    Capping bricks-  Capping bricks are used to cap the tops of freestanding walls.
The brick machines categorize bricks according to the method of manufacture and component materials.  The most common categories of bricks based on the materials used are:-

•    Burnt clay bricks- Burnt clay bricks are the most common form of brick, which are created by pressing wet clay into molds and then drying and firing them in kilns. Burnt clay bricks are used in the ancient structures of the world. These bricks are usually reddish in color.

•    Concrete bricks- Concrete bricks have grown in popularity among homeowners.  These bricks are usually placed in fences, and facades provide an aesthetic appearance.

•    Firebrick- Firebrick are known as refractory bricks as they are made up of earth with a high aluminum oxide of content. These bricks can withstand very high temperatures without their shape, size or strength being affected.

•    Fly ash clay bricks- Fly ash bricks are manufactured using fly ash and clay. It is lighter in weight than concrete or clay brick.   

•    Sand lime bricks- Sand lime bricks are also known as calcium silicate bricks and are made by mixing sand, fly ash and lime. Pigments may also be added to give color.  The mixture  is then molded under pressure to form bricks.  

Those were different categories of bricks. A specific type of brick machine can be used to produce bricks which can be used for different purposes.
