Understanding the Concept behind PCB Terminal Blocks

PCB terminal blocks are insulated and modular devices that are found on printed circuit boards. This secure two or more wires together. They are used to safeguard or terminate wires with a simple form easiest of several individual terminals is arranged in a long strip. The terminals are very useful for connecting wiring to a ground which ultimately connects the Electrical switches and outlets to the mains.

Structure of the terminal bodies

They can be classified according to their structure as well as the device type. Let us see the structural type first.

Structure types Single feed products

There are single feed products which represent the basic type of the terminal block. Basically, they are used for the wire to wire connections. Generally, Singhal feed terminal blocks have one Input and one output contact. You can find two distinct wires which are fed into either side of the terminal block and connected within its housing.

Dual-Level terminal blocks

These have two levels of contacts. Comparatively, this arrangement saves more space and simplifies wiring. Multilevel products can connect one contact level to another of a bridge to contact. This will increase circuit flexibility.

Three-level terminal blocks

These are exactly like the dual-level products with an additional extra stack. Just like the dual-level blocks, these can be bridged.

Device types

Under the device types, blocks can also be classified with the type of device they connect.

Ground circuit terminals

Ground circuits terminals help to ground components or systems. Usually, they are interchangeable with the standard terminal blocks and can be inserted into a block as per the requirement.

Fuse holders

Fuse holders help in connecting several fuses that are related to numerous devices. Even when a short circuit occurs, only the wire sections connected to the fuse holder are affected.

Thermocouple blocks

Thermocouple blocks help in connecting thermocouples. They provide consistent metal connections, thereby helping in measuring the temperature.

Sensor blocks

Sensor blocks are also called as actuator blocks. This can handle 3 or 4 wire devices — for instance, proximity sensors and photoelectric centres.
