How to Maintain Your UPS for Increasing its Life-expectancy and Avoiding Repairs

UPS batteries have an average lifespan of 3-5 years if they are maintained well. How does the lifespan of the UPS battery can be affected and how would you make sure to maximize its life. There are three factors primarily that affect the UPS and its battery life. These factors are temperature, unit placement and cycling frequency. With the help of a few simple guidelines you can maximize the life of your UPS.

Here is a quick look at those factors.

Unit Placement:

If you are using your computer near the open windows, you should stop doing so. The unit should never be placed near open windows or in the areas that have a high amount of moisture content. UPS repair is a common phenomenon in the homes where the computers kept close to the windows. This is so because the ventilation openings at the front, rear, side unit must not be blocked in any case so that a proper air circulation can be conducted and over-heating can be avoided.

Temperature:

In most of the cases UPSs have a recommended operating temperature that ranges for about 30 degree Fahrenheit to just more than 100 degreesFahrenheit. The users are not aware of the fact that there is an optimal recommended temperature. As a rule of thumb at every 10 degree centigrade or over the temperature of 25 degree centigrade, the life of UPS and its battery life go down by 50%.

Cycling:

Whenever there is power disruption, the UPS would automatically switch to the battery powder for the purpose of providing the attached equipment energy. Once you know the utility power has been restored the UPS battery would automatically recharge the battery to prepare for the next-power outage. The process is called as discharge cycle. If the discharge cycle occurs more frequently, the battery would be depleted quickly.

Cycling is an inevitable part of the UPS operation. If you are not aware of the cycling frequency you would begin noticing the abnormal. Most of the UPS models can be adjusted simply which allows the users to regulate the sensitivity for the sagging voltage and other types of nuisance trips which can consume the battery capacity unnecessarily.

There are UPSs that last for a long time and can provide the best performance. These are the units that provide the best management and the care. Providing the optimal oversight to the UPS can be a simple process. The customer needs to make sure that there plan is simple, proactive and consistent.

Servo drives are the special type of electronic amplifiers that are used for powering electric servomechanisms. A servo drive used in UPS monitors the feedback signal from the servo-mechanisms and automatically adjusts for any deviation from the anticipated behavior.
