Different Kinds of Pipelines for the Purpose of Gas Supply

Posted by Pipeline Intelligence on September 26th, 2019

In various oil and gas supply projects, pipelines are used. Basically, the pipelines are the parts of infrastructure for gas or oil supply. When natural gas is collected from natural reservoir, it is passed through some processes. For supply the gas to different corners of a city, pipeline supply is needed. With proper pipeline supply, it becomes easier for people to get gas supply properly and safely. To setup the pipelines, the pipeline contractors have important roles to play. You can check pipeline excel spreadsheet to identify the leading gas pipeline contractors. A good contractor www.pipelineintelligence.com/spreadsheet knows about different kinds of pipelines for the gas supply project. In the following section, those different types of pipelines are discussed.

Types of Pipelines for the Purpose of Gas Supply

For gas supply, pipeline infrastructure is essential. Pipelines have to be placed as per proper planning so that gas can be supplied in different parts of a commercial pant, city and house. So, here is a guide on the different types of pipelines for the gas supply.

1. Gathering Pipelines

The first type of pipeline that needs to be discussed here is known as gather pipeline. As the name suggests, this type of pipeline connects the source and storage tank. From source, the gas is collected in a pipeline. Then, it is passed through the pipeline. Eventually, it reaches the collection tank. Sometimes, the gas goes through processing stages. After being processed, the gas has to be collected in a tank. So, once again gathering tubes or pipes are used for connecting the processing unit and collection tank for the natural gas. From the size of the pipes, they are often identified. Gathering pipes are relatively shorter than other types of pipes. The size could be around 200 meters approximately. The diameter of the pipes remains around 18 inches. Sometimes, pipes with larger diameters can also be found.

2. Transmission Pipelines

These types of pipelines are used for the purpose of transmitting gas from the mining station to different reservoirs in the cities or states. In cities or states, there are reservoirs can be found. Here, the gas is collected for distributing to different units or households or commercial places of the city. Transmission pipelines are known for operating with high pressure. They have to deal with pressure level around 200 PSI. Diameter of the pipe can be found around 42 inches. Length is generally long. This type of pipes comes with the largest lengths.

3. Distribution Pipelines

From the city reservoir, the gas has to be supplied at different places, like houses, commercial centers, factories, offices, etc. For the purpose of distribution, it is important to find the best quality pipeline publication report. Such pipes can be made with cast iron, plastic and copper. Such pipes are designed to deal with high pressure situation. That means the pipes can bear up to 200 PSI pressure level. There is no fixed length of such pipes. Based on the requirements, diameter also varies a lot. Apart from these, there could be a few more types of pipes. However, these three types are mostly used.
