It must be noted that the second installment has to be paid before the visa is granted. The current processing period for a contributory parent visa is 3 years

The criteria include:

  1. You must have more children living in Australia than in other countries.

  2. Your sponsor must be settled in Australia.

  3. You fulfill the health criteria required both at the time of applying and at the time of grant of the visa.

  4. You cannot sponsor a spouse or a partner on a partner visa for five years.

  5. You must always be aware of the current status of visa regarding the expiry date and conditions.

Non-contributory visa

This is the visa for you if you are a permanent inhabitant or a settled Australian citizen. You can sponsor your parents to live with you in Australia. However, the main con of this type of visa is the long waiting period connected to it. There is a risk that many parents may not be granted the visa in their lifetime. It is thereby advised to look out for Australia immigration consultants to aid in the procedure.

Children who are below the age of 23 years and de facto partners or spouses can be included as family members. The health requirement for both the subclasses cannot be waived for this visa. This visa lasts for 5 years with travel facility and is permanent. You can stay in Australia permanently. The process is different if you want to leave and return at the end of five years. You would have to apply for a resident return visa.

Applicants looking for a shorter waiting interval can opt for a contributory visa. However, the application cost of this visa is significantly higher.

Non-Contributory Parent Visa: Application Process

The steps include:

  1. Lodge sponsorship or visa application.

  2. Wait for the visa to be processed

  3. If you are assessed as eligible for granting the visa, your visa is placed in a queue.

  4. You have to wait for the visa to move forward through the queue.

  5. A health assessment is done when the visa is next in the queue go be granted.

  6. You have to the second installment of the visa fee.

  7. Visa is granted.

    Aged parent visa

There are two kinds of non-contributory visa. One is for parents below the pension age in Australia that is, 65 years. While the second one is for parents over the pension age. The difference is that the aged parent visa allows you a bridging visa. This lets them stay in Australia while your visa application is being processed and is in the queue. It can be applied for within Australia (subclass 804). Applicants who are below the pension age cannot be granted a bridging visa and have to apply from outside Australia.

Eligibility for a non-contributory parent visa

These are the criteria for eligibility for a non-contributory parent visa:

    1. Your sponsor must be a resident of Australia.

    2. You are ready to compensate the Australian government for the services you utilize while in Australia.

    3. You have more children residing in Australia than in any other country.

    4. You fulfill the health requirements both while applying for a visa and when your visa is to be granted.

    Common problems faced by applicants

    1. This type of visa has a cap on the number of visas that can be granted each year. As a result, the waiting period for this visa is approximately between 30-50 years

    2. You need to give evidence or proof that your sponsor is a resident of Australia.

    3. You must be always conscious of the status of your current visa’s conditions and expiry date. Expired current visa without a fresh application can have adverse consequences.
