Top places near Gokarna that are worth visiting

Gokarna is a tranquil beach destination where travellers come after they have had enough of Goa. This pretty location in Karnataka is surrounded by charming hills, pretty forests and temples that are a must visit.

But apart from Gokarna, there are many places worth travelling to and are mostly 2 to 3 hours away. Here are a few of them –

Udupi

Udupi beaches are a local secret and not many visit here because everyone chooses Goa.Udupi also offers a chance to explore pretty temples, historical forts, national parks and trekking around the hilly pathways. The seafood in Udupi is simply delicious and as it is closer to Manipal, so everything is budget friendly.

Murudeshwara

Murudeshwara is 2 hour away from Gokarna and is known for the imposing structure of Lord Shiva that overlooks the Ocean. The beach nearby is simply gorgeous and offers a number of watersports. Murudeshwara town has its own beauty and walking around feels like travelling back in the 90s. Netrani Island is close to Murudeshwara and is one of the best spots for scuba diving in the region.

St. Mary’s Island

This quaint island is close to the town of Udupi and can be reached by a short boat ride. White sandy beaches are unlike anything you’ll find in Goa or Gokarna. The island has pristine wildlife and rock monoliths that is really exciting for the history lovers. The island is also promoting scuba diving as the underwater life is very rich and diverse.

Kumta

Kumta to Gokarna treks are one of the favourite among the travellers and backpackers. This two day trek goes across some of the top hidden beaches that are almost empty. The sleepy little town of Kumta is also famous for Yana Caves that serve as another trekking trail in the region. Apart from this, one can also visit Mirjan Fort which is spread in an area of 4.1 hectares.
