Frozen meat is perfect for cooking and easy to store. However, if you don't thaw it properly, your food is at risk of getting dangerous bacteria. Below is how to melt frozen meat using cold water.

Choose the cold water method.

This method of thawing frozen meat is much faster than the refrigerator method. Meat weighing 2.3 kg or less can be thawed in one hour, while larger cuts of meat can take 2 to 3 hours. In addition, thinner portions of meat are not at risk of cooking as if you were using a microwave. However, thawed meat must be cooked immediately.

Put meat in a bag that can be tightly closed.

This type of bag can protect the meat from being attacked by bacteria in the water or air. First, choose a large plastic bag. Next, close the bag tightly while pressing on the bag to expel the air inside.

You don't need to throw away the plastic packaging that wraps the meat from frozen meat suppliers before putting it in a plastic bag.

Soak the bag of meat in a bowl filled with cold water. Use a large bowl and place it in the sink. Fill the bowl with cold tap water. After that, put the bag of meat in the water, with all the parts must be immersed in water. Leave the meat submerged in water until the meat has completely melted. Every 30 minutes, drain the water and refill it to keep the water cool and fresh.

  • Melting meat weighing half or one kilogram can take 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Larger pieces of meat can take 2 to 3 hours

Cook the meat that has melted immediately. Even though the meat has been marinated in cold water, the meat has been exposed to warm temperatures. Therefore, the meat must be cooked immediately. If you want to freeze it again, cook the meat first.
