That’s why it’s important to get it right the first time. Employers will pass you over for many reasons including; poor layout, incorrect spelling/grammar, too short/long etc. If your resume isn’t visually appealing at a glance then you may simply be discarded as an option. Seem harsh? Maybe, but the job market is highly competitive which means you need to stand out but not in a bad way. Read on for our Resume Writing Tips. What to include in a resume – The must have’s:First & Last Name Address: Full address is optional, at least include your city and state/province Phone number & Email address: Seems obvious right? Well apparently not for some. Too many times I have picked up the phone ready to call a candidate and low and behold no phone number. Make sure the phone number you use is active and that you use a professional email address Professional Summary: A short paragraph summarizing your skills and experience Highlights: Eight to ten dot points outlining your most relevant skills and experience Work Experience: Company name, Job Title, Date employed to/from and four to five dot points covering your main responsibilities (one sentence per dot point) that are most relevant to the position you are applying for Volunteer experience: If applicable.
